Did anyone see on GMTV that the place we stayed at the last FF Meeting, Saltaire, near Bradford has been named something along the lines of the best place in Britain? Could it be anything to do with us being there? [:)]

Ooh, Sefton Park Palm House, I've been there hundreds of times. My friend was married there too. Fancy that being named.

Yes Debbie, I think it was because of us![;)][:X] X

Melanie, are you still struggling with a venue. Ibis hotels have a special offer on their rooms at the moment I think. Check out the link below, may be useful? Rgrds Kazzy x

I cringe now every time I go past the Brittania.
Hopefully one of the hotels I passed by email to Melanie will be ok. I will have a look at the ibis hotels, thanks kazzy. I did pass 2 to Melanie they arte the Quality inn hagley Road and the menzies strathalan, Hagley Road. this is just outside of town and far enough away from the main clubbing and bar areas. They have free parking and are very easy to get to by train and car. In birmingham parking was a big prob for those by car last time, a distance from the hotel and quite scary to go to at night and expensive. Steve and I went to check a few out and the one wanted £9.0 a day parking for guests only and for a skyscraper hotel it had about 20 spaces and it was just a bit of waste ground with net fence round it next to the hotel. So just outside town is much better. Also with the 2 above , this road tends to have loads of hotels as is perfect for town and therfore should ther be any prob with room availability then I am sure there will be another hotel within walking distance for anybody who cant get booked.

Anyway we will find somewhere, no worry so get you party dresses out. It will be a great night.

Hi tol
the Brittania is in the main shopping area, and is used by a lot as a stopover for nights out in town. The food was booked by Melanie and we were all in the bar not hiding, how can 15 people not be obvious we were more or less the only ones in ther, and they didnt say the food was ready and then when Melanie asked they had put it all away, and just threw anything they could out. Also tose that stayed said it was noisy, I think some people were throwing stuff out of windows. Parking was too far away and underground car parks so not safe for those going back to their car. Basically it was rubbish. mind you I think Melanie made sure they knew it.

The staff were very rude too. The food was errr, kind of breakfast, lunch and some dinner items, salad too, I think. The service was way short of what was expected. However, we made the most of the evening. I made a meal of cajoin chicken and salad, it was nice and I was grateful.

Some bloke was fast asleep, sitting bolt upright in front of the telly. I actually thought he was dead, I did think about dropping a book on a table behind him, just to see if he was still alive. He did start walking around a bit later on, still not sure what planet he was from.

I forgot about the bloke in the chair Lili [:D] [:D]

When I went to Edingburgh last weekend the hotel we were due to stay in in Darlington burnt down the night before! The travel company did a bit of frantic behind the scenes re-organising and booked us into The Station Hotel in Newcastle. When we pulled up outside it had reminiscences of The Britannia and I thought "oh no, not more plates thrown out the window" ... but it was wonderful. My bedroom overlooked the station platform and I before I went to bed I whiled away time with a cup tea looking at all the different liveried trains pulling in and out of the station (sad!).

If you FF wants to go to Newcastle I could thoroughly recommend the hotel.

Don't forget the Thermos flask and the packet of sandwiches, the camera and the binoculars!!!

I once saw a trainspotter at Birmingham New Street who lay on the platform to try and take pictures of the underneath of a new Virgin train!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure that if he could have jumped down onto the track, he would have done.
