Yow cor spake proper till yow spake Black Country OT!

One of my favourite things is something printed in the Express and Star years ago. It is the Nativity Story told in Black Country dialect and given a modern twist by kids. It is so funny, but does need to be done with the accent!

Debtmountain - I hope you have never confused a Brummie with a Black Country native! They hate being mixed up!

We are nice people normally though!

Bostin is one i use quite a lot.
I was born in what is now called Telford, which has a lot of black country influence in the dialect, along with it's own peculiarities.
calling people "cock" was one in particular that Mrs Torch found amusing.
She's Welsh, she can't help it.

Still in use quite a lot now OT. Like natives of Stoke on Trent call people 'duck'.

I used to hate being called 'bab' though! Another typical black country expression but I used to want to scream down the phone 'I am not your bab!!!!!'.

It is a word I hate.

I used to work in Walsall, the 'karma' was the place I was sent to but the street name wasnt actually called that, I had a heck of a job to find it. Well I found the people to be really salt of the earth and although I had problems with the language at first I enjoyed my time there. Also I am a Brummie there is a vast difference in our 'speak'. When I go to see my folks in Manchester, they always say to me, yam, right, R Ya, errr, pardon?? Me no understand. I also trained with a girl from Wolverhampton, we were on a training day at stafford once and she got there first, the tutor hadnt turned up. Kris, yo on train, get off them nohere, stupayit. them dobother tellin, all this *** way, they dont give a **** no wat em like. Yo get off go ome, ****em.

She was my best friend then and still is now.
