Hi there - you have taken the first step and admitted/acknowledged you have a problem - massive kudos to you. I'm sorry to hear about your wife. An IVA may well be a suitable solution for you but best to have a face to face meeting with an IP to go over all of your options and discuss all of the facts before deciding.
Good to see that you have at least made a start and there's some great support here. No harm in talking to at least a couple of the IP's on this forum.
Specialist Mortgage Advisers. Highly Commended at the British Mortgage Awards.
Hi Cell, I was were you were 6 years ago. Found this forum and applied for an IVA. All finished now and I am free to get on with my life.
I have about £80k gambling debts, these immediately before my IVA and it was still accepted.
You don't have to tell your partner but despite being the toughest thing you ever do, it may be for the best.
Well done on taking your head out of the sand.

Have you thought of having a word with Andy Davie or Vincent Bond for their advice? Might be worth a call.

Can I offer some advice from personal experience, take note of what foggy says, you may get pointed by step-change in the direction of grant Thornton who in my personal experience say all the right things to start with and then you get palmed off to a robot that just doesn't get it, also they seem to be one of the most complained about on these forums (maybe because of sheer volume of business that goes their way from cab/stepchange).
My blog details the path I took when I decided to act but wasn't sure if an IVA was for me. As ironic as it sounds I'm very happy with my final choice of the firm who helped me get an IVA.
Good luck.

IVA ended August 2015. Would recommend McCambridge Duffy
Make sure that you are up for the pressure and constraints and someone looking over your shoulder.
IVA started March 2011, Completed March 2016 and certificate issued 11 days after final payment. It was not always easy but then some of the best decisions aren't.
I just want to wish you all the best, it won't be easy but it will be worth it and remember the forum is here for support and a chat as well as advice.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
