Just found this post, trying to catch up.

Even if the firm paid it back to you, surely it is not a "windfall" as you paid it out in the 1st place so they are just giving back what they have already taken?

My company keep it in reserve for the Winter months and it's worked out really well, after I contacte dthem to say they were charging me to much!!

Mine is the same. All utility direct debit plans work the same way. You pay a fixed Monthly cost which is based on your estimated total annual consumption divided by 12. It already takes into account that you will use less in the Summer and more in the Winter, so its not a windfall, its actually budgeting - it all balances out in the end.

You may be ok, although some IPs might want to see any savings paid across to the creditors depending upon how much they were.

sorry to bring up an old post
Phoned British Gas today to give meter readings and check that my application to go on the fixed rate deal til 2012 had been approved-it had.
Anyhow adviser informed me that gas and lekkie could possibly rise by 25% this year-so if anyone feels the need to get their rates fixed-do it quick!!!!!

We're on a fixed rate with British Gas at the moment but it runs out in September so we'll probably be hit with the rise! We're going to have a look at changing now, even though it will cost us £100 to change the tariff - it'll be worth it if it does go up.

skippy-they let us off with the fee as we had only been on websaver 10 for about 6 months - have a word with them !!!

Something I have never done is fixed our utilities tariff.

We're with Atlantic for both and find them very competitive.

I prefer to have everything fixed. With Dave being self employed and his money being different each month I like to know exactly what we've got to find each month.

I suppose it is a help. My payments have remained the same since I moved to them, I suppose I've been lucky in that regard.
