Gas/Electric Bill

We received our Scottish Power Bill today and the monthly direct debit has gone up by £43. We now are expected to pey £138 a month. We have not yet had a proposal through and wondered if we forward this bill onto our IP. We have rang Scottish Power on numerous ocassions to try and get the monthly figure lowered but it doesn't seem to happen. I wouldn't mind but we have just stumped up a fortune for a new all singing all dancing economic boiler!

I know I nearly fell over!

I am sick of giving them meter readings.

I wonder whether we have ever been paying right. The boiler we had previously was very hit and miss. In the end it gave up and British Gas condemned it.

I hope Melanie sees this as Ang isn't well the poor sole. There is loads of Flu going round at the minute though.

I have also had a letter from MBNA on behalf of Virgin asking me to ring them. I don't know whether I should?

Ours went up in october by £27 but that was for both gas and elec. My company has allowed the increase to be offset from our overtime at review. I sent a bill to show the increased payments. I would ring them though to see if the increase is necessary as well for that amount. You can save money by running your account online and doing your own readings. I do this and saved aboyt £120 a year i am with eon.

I'm not sure, You probably really don't want to phone them so maybe Melanie can advise on that one too. I haven't been answering my phone for two weeks now, I'm really scared but am sending everything back to Melanie tomorrow so maybe then I can answer. I haven't experienced the "bad" calls yet...I've got all that to come. Maybe you could get a rep from scottish power to come out and assess everything, do they do that? They should! Viki X

We have had 2 calls one from RBS and one from Egg. I have to say they were nice. I'm not sayig they will stay nice lol! I just did all the talking. I read the standard letter that Melanie's team sent me to send out, and then I tell them that it is not something we have entered into lightly. I also am clear that at the moment we have no funds available to give them. I make sure to also say that I will keep them updated and that I will not avoid their calls as long as they understand that I will not take agressive calls. I have though received 2 letters from solicitors called Brachers which made me cry (one for me one for oh) and I have received 2 more today (one each) from MBNA. I am not yet being inundated but I'm sure I will be soon.

To be honest I rang them and told them I was going to change supplier and suddenly all these moneysaving suggestions came up. I also get tesco clubcard points as well.

we had a similar increase which was based on the average winter bill, I told them no way as over the year it would even it self out - they agreed to keep it the same and said it was "computer generated" these computers do keep themselves busy lol.

We definately need to see the new bill, Marie, so that the new direct debit sum can be worked into your IVA proposal.

Hi moneystinks, im with scottish power have been for a few years now & last year my monthly payments increased by £35 for gas & electric, i was shocked but everything in this country is going up at a rate ive never witnessed before

Last time we spoke to them in Feb they said they would reduce the dd by £10. We thought great - BUT then the guy came last week read the meter we thought yeah we're sorted new boiler cheaper etc etc. No..........we received the bill and it had been hiked up!!

I agree everything is going up. Petrol went up 3 pence in the space of 4 days - we don't stand a chance do we?

We had a horrendous gas bill from Numpty Power and it turns out the thermostat on our heating was faulty - it was jammed on so we were getting the heating blasting out all the time. We didn't notice in the winter, but it was getting a bit hot in the last month or so!

I've just had my quarterly bill in from e-on (or whatever it's now called) ... I refuse to pay anyone other than those I really need to by direct debit nowadays ... I tend to hold on to my money for as long as I possibly can! The bill is HUGE ... a reflection I think of the massive increase in power this year ... I hope that all these additional costs are going to be taken into account with people's IVA reviews fairly when the time comes.
