My IVA completed in June 2011 and I married in Feb 2012.

My 1st mortgage application has just been rejected by a highstreet bank because (after 1.5 hour application meeting!) they don't lend to people who've been bankrupt or had an IVA. It would have been nice to have been told this at the time.

To make matters worse, I've just checked my credit report and it says I'm not on the electoral roll. I am ... but in my maiden name! AHHHHH. I have sent my local council a letter but they won't be publishing an updated electoral register until October 2012.

So .... my question is, how do I get a mortgage before I lose the house of my dreams which is slipping through my fingers??

If it helps, the house is £168,000 and I have £35,000 deposit.

We have a mortgage expert on the forum - his name is Ryan and you can find his details on the left hand side of the page under the 'Ask a Question' link on the left hand side of the page - he has helped a lot of posters on here.

Give him a call.

Ryan is a good starting point and with that level of deposit he may be able to help.....he helped us to live the homeowner dream and continues to be very supportive ......give him a ring and see what he can do.

Find a whole of market broker and be up front about your credit history. Not a lot you can do about electoral roll at this point.

Good luck.

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

So long as when you apply you can demonstrate the name change with a document the mortgage company should accept the difference - my opinion that is - hopefully a broker will have contacts and be able to get over this hurdle for you
