Hi All,
Sorry I've not posted for a while but things are really hectic here at the moment. I was so relieved when Melanie agreed to help us but after sending all the paperwork and having a chat with Melanie I am worried things are'nt going so well.
Melanie said we need to get some life insurance sorted, which I agree, for the sake of our children. We have a quote that I want to check with Melanie to see if the premium is OK , as we need to sort out our expenditure. But Melanie mentioned that our creditors may insist on a DMP instead of an IVA. We really do not want a DMP as they seem to be so unreliable judging by the posts on the forum. Can anyone advise us on experiences with DMP's.
The phone calls are coming thick and fast now and are really getting to us. One creditor even told our 7 year old son that they wanted to discuss an overdue account with his Daddy....
Many Thanks

Paul

That is totally out of order Paul - they should not be discussing anything with anyone but you, and especially not your children.

If it's any consolation, me and hubby did a DMP for 18 months before we went into our IVA, and we had no problems at all. All the creditors froze interest and charges and they just rang us every six months to check if anything had changed, so some DMP's re ok.

I think you need to speak to Melanie's office and tell them of your concerns.

Thanks for your reply Kallis,
I agree it is totally out of order for them to discuss my situation with anyone, especially my son.

I did say to Melanie that we would prefer the IVA route than a DMP. We just need to sort out our expenditure . The thing that worries me is that our home is linked with my job and if our creditors start to ring work it might affect my position. ( mainly in the way people gossip ).
One of our creditors even tried to offer a consolidation loan after I told them we were trying for an IVA.....Unbelievable!

That doesn't surprise me!

The only thing I can suggest workwise, if they call, is to tell them that if they do continue to ring, you will lose your job and be forced to go bankrupt.

I know this has worked on a couple of occasions.

Disgraceful behaviour to say that to your son.

Paul - I would prefer to speak to you about specific case matters off line if that is OK. I will now send you my personal e-mail address so that this can be dealt with in confidence.

Thanks Melanie, I really appreciate all your help, I only wish we did'nt cancel our life insurance thinking it was an unnessesary expenditure, but now realise with 3 young children and the fact that our home is tied with my job this left us really exposed.

I just have to hope our creditors will be understanding once our IVA is put forward.

Many thanks

Paul

That is why it is so important that you have detailed discussions about your expenditure with your IP Paul. You are taking a very sensible stance here, putting your family's safety as a paramount priority which you ought to be commended for.
