I recently received a letter, like many other people from grant Thornton regarding eic! I rang and asked them not to pass my details on, as I had never been mid-sold or had bank charges to claim back. Was advised that they you send me a declaration to sign. Nothin has come through and when I rang to chase a week ago I was advised that these haven't been sent yet as they were been sent in bulk?!
Low and behold I've just taken a call from eic- in their words they have received my information from grant Thornton! Why do these things always happen over the weekend when their offices are conveniently closed!
We too received the "letter" from GT and told them we did not want our details passing on as we were / are in the process of chasing the relevant companies ourselves.
We also got a call off EIC who had been passed our info, to say they were shi**y on the phone when we told them we were doing it ourselves is an understatement, they said we were in breach of our IVA - god knows what grounds they can say that on as they have nothing to do with our IVA or GT......
Whilst I fully applaud any insolvency practitioner encouraging their clients to maximise the recovery of assets for the benefit of their creditors, controls must be in place to ensure that information passed to third parties engaged to assist in this process is with their client's consent.
Very poor feedback about the claims company in question and their attitude to you nickjohn. I trust that you have fed this back to GT for them to follow up for you - calls are likely to have been recorded.
We received our letter from GT about 2 weeks ago, followed by the phone call from EIC the same day, before we had chance to contact GT. EIC told us if we pursued a claim, our IVA would be paid off early. I told them that we had only had PPI once and it was in a home improvement loan 13 years ago, and as a result of illness, my husband was on long term sick so the repayments were covered for about 5-6 months. We ended up claiming more than we had actually paid in premiums, so I told them I didn't see how we could have a valid claim. He then went onto say that they could pursue a claim for unfair bank charges, I told him we had claimed these back a few years ago (well before our IVA). He insisted they could still claim money back for us, and it would involve them carrying out a credit check to obtain details of all our credit agreements/cards. He said we needed to provide an electronic signature giving authority for them to act on our behalf and he would e-mail me a document to return to them.
So far I have not received anything from them, but and if we do, I do not intend to give them authority to pursue any claim on our behalf. I have not been mis-sold PPI, therefore no grounds for a claim.
No doubt other people on this forum will have had a similar experience with EIC.......
On what authority are EIC telling you that your IVA will be paid off early? What information do they actually hold about your case, and how do they know you will be in a position to pay all creditors in full plus costs - which is the only way an IVA can be paid off early without the agreement of creditors.
Hi Melanie, I can only assume they are saying it can be paid off early to persuade people to sign up. I knew there was no way it would be paid off early. They told me all they needed was an electronic signature, so this suggests that they may have been provided with specific details about our case. To be honest I haven't contacted GT because I didn't hear anything else from EIC, but I'm wondering whether I should to confirm we don't wish to pursue a claim?

Hi Melanie, I gave up trying to give feedback to GT some time ago. The only contact we have is with the customer services dept, we have no specific practitioner to direct queries to. Apparently this is the norm now with GT.
I am sure the IPs at GT would be concerned to here that feedback nickjohn. I know both of them very well, they are down to earth, hardoworking practitioners who are genuinely interested to know if things are going wrong. You could try e-mailing them directly to let them know of your concerns.

Would love to email them directly but do not have their email address only been able to get customer services
I have made a formal complaint to GT about them passing on my personal information to EIC without my consent. They have acknowledged receipt and are investigating so I await their full response with interest.
