Hi Samantha.jj and welcome, You can claim PPI yourself.
If you look at my earlier posts on this thread there are web sites which you can download template letters to claim.
If you use a company to claim for you they will take a 30%+ cut in fees, also if the claim is off one or more of your creditors they will offset any refund due to you against the debt leaving you with a bill for the claiming company.
Do it yourself and cut out the greedy middleman.
Hope this helps.

But where is all this coming from because GT haven't told me I can claim myself or if it will upset the variation?

If you are still in the payment process there is no delay to your CC but if like me I made my last payment over a year ago they may simply say no CC until the final penny is in from PPI. This could be another year according to other posters.

GT will not tell you that you can claim yourself.
There is no law whatsoever stopping you claiming yourself, I have done it and had a reply from three creditors within 14 days.
I am currently in month 42/60.

Playing devil's advocate here, but why should any IP tell you you can do it yourself ? After all, when buying a house how many people come out of their solicitors office being told they could do it themselves ? And, no, conveyancing isn't a black art either !

However, I can see the scenario that, having done so yourself and maybe dug up a few quid, the IP could turn around and say that they are going to investigate anyway to make sure you haven't missed anything!

I, too, object to my claims company getting 30%, but, frankly, if the creditors have sanctioned losing this chunk that is their prerogative and I am losing no sleep over it.

They cannot claim for something that you were not mis sold! Seen as the companies claiming this PPI are Associated with gt it's just another way of making money and it is illegal and fraudulent if they claim something that you deny was mis sold!

Even if you agreed to take out PPI on a loan it is not sound justification that it wasn't mis sold. Some of the T&C's and small print were written in such a way that if you tried to make a claim for what you believed you were covered on there was an out route for the Banks. The claims that your IP has had authorised would in no way be illegal or fraudulent, if this was the case then the Banks in question would defend their stance with vigour. The IP's using claims companies is so that you do not in any circumstances become liable for any monies that are claimed in error or if a legal challenge is made against the claim. The 30% is a high reward for the claims company, but they are taking all the risks. It is not like you are likely to see a blind penny from any claims in any case.
Last Payment made 04/12/14. Completion Certificate 25/7/15. IVA company GT. No Issues

The claim is the clients claim and not the IP's claim - so if any of you do not accept that you were mis-sold a policy then make your position clear. It is a brave IP who decides to continue with a claim without seeking their client's agreement, as the creditor will want to know what your views are no doubt, and whether you accept the argument.

i was also told that by signing some form they sent me (cant remember what it was) my closure would come through in about 8 weeks and would not have to wait for the claims as i had signed them over this ment i should have my letter in august now oct and still nothing
the worst thing is a friend made a claim for ppi and had the money in 4 weeks so why do they take so long

Some of these cases seem to be taking an inordinate time to close - I assume that you are being provided with annual reports each year which provide an update of progress to date?

Hi

How can it ever be acceptable that an IVA is still open 2.5 years after final payment ?
Are you with Grant Thornton tony3333 ?

hi i retyped an appology to gt the date was mis types should have been 2012 total of almost 21 months
still way too long
managed to speak to someone at gt today and have been assured my completion letter was sent out on 16 oct still not recieved but will give them until the end of the week.
this company are from what i read on line one of the worst at completing peoples iva
its been more stressful in the lasat 21 months trying to finaly get my life back on track and get answers from these people than it was with the debt, haveing made all my payments on time and even overpaying by £250 which took about 5 months to get back to me i feel i was being treated worse by gt than my creditors
my origional iva was with bains & earnst (sorry if i spelt that wrong) all was well until gt took over
it is only my opinion but i think these people need to be investigated to be sure they are doing the best for their clients

lets just hope that this time i have been told the truth and my closure is finaly on the way

My last payment to gt was august 2012 still waiting for my cc I was told when I spoke to them this month it would be 6 months until I get it which would have been april 2014 but then I decided to send an email complaining that I am waiting too long so gt got back to me and said they are having delays in closing my case they have told me it will now be 3 months now instead of 6 months wait for my cc and they have marked it as urgent.
Last payment made August 2012 Certificate of Completion recieved 15th of Novenber 2013.
