Hi everyone,

Been a forum reader for years but never posted before, I wanted to complete My IVA before posting my experiences, it's long be patient...... so here goes.

IVA agreed 11/05/2007 through a company called MyVesta, taken over by Grant Thornton a year later in 2008.
Unable to remortgage as per the fourth year clause so my IVA was extended another year to 6 years in lieu of the equity for the house I lived in, as there was very little.
Last Payment left my bank account in April 2013, completion certificate and all relevant documentation received via email 02nd Dec, sent copies to Insolvency register on 03rd and I am already off the insolvency register.....WOW!!!!
I really wanted to post, as through the years I've read about peoples different experiences particularly with Grant Thornton and most seem to have had really bad experiences.
Not the case with me!!! Grant Thornton throughout the course of my 6 and a half years with them have generally been excellent particularly during the term of the payments and been extremely supportive.
What has let them down a little is the after care leading up to closure and issue of the completion documents......but nothing major.
I emailed them on a monthly basis after my last payment and always received a reply, I was always told that I would receive completion documents within 4 to 6 months.
October came (6 months)and no docs, I changed tactics and emailed every week and received replies apologizing for delay and that I would receive the docs end of November.
End of November no docs so I had a crack at a cheeky complaint, I received an email straight back and within a couple of days my IVA had been closed and a copy of all my documentation emailed to me straight away....what an awesome feeling!!!!!!!
The journey has been massively hard particularly the first couple of years, but once things settled down and I re educated myself financially I was able to stick to my budget, I had to make massive sacrifices along the way both socially and financially, but it was worth it! I had been facing bankruptcy but it was all of my own doing, I had lived my life to the fullest everything was on credit, had some fantastic experiences and had all the finest things and then one day it came crashing down!!!!
I certainly don't live with any regrets, I have a fantastic wife and kids and they are whats important....its a new start!!
I guess I was also lucky I have a good secure job so always had an income.
What I would say to people is......be patient it will end, read the forum and peoples experiences but don't panic with the bad posts, relax and communicate with your IP... that's the big thing communication.
If you're not happy complain it will get things resolved.
I could ramble on for ages, and believe me I want to!!!
Christmas has come early and I look forward to the new year, so with that if anyone has any questions feel free to ask I will respond as reading the forum is now a habit.....For those starting out or already in IVA's, I wish you all the very best on your journeys and genuinely hope your experience is as successful as mine....Thank You Grant Thornton!!

Ian

Good luck for the future, we have taken our medicine and how bitter was the taste. I hope to be free next year, my IP saw that I got into a mess trying to keep a business afloat and made it personal, never again learnt some harsh lessons. Well done and good luck............

Well done, Smudge, and best of luck with the future. It is good to hear praise for GT. As I have said before -- I have nothing but praise for the way they handled my IVA, even though I was an unhappy "conscript" when they purchased my case. It is still a pity that the completion took quite a bit of effort from you to get it going ... but really well done on that score.

Onward and upward :-)
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Congratulations on completing and like you, I have just finished my IVA with Grant Thornton and found them to be very supportive and helpful.
I know the certificate could take 6 months to arrive but I am prepared to wait. Your advice/update is very helpful and I do wish you and your family all the best for the future. Its a great feeling isn't it when you know you've done all you can to achieve being debt free. [:)]
All best mate.
IVA completed!!! Looking forward to getting my life back! Stay positive and you'll get there in the end.

Good luck Villa...you've cracked it!!!!
I'm in the process of sorting out the credit companies experian I'm already showing 999 excellent for a score!!! just waiting for Noddle(call credit) and equifax to update I have sent them Docs so confident they will be updated shortly.
Even though I'm over the moon keeping my feet firmly on the ground regarding credit....those harsh lessons learnt will never be repeated!!!!

Myvesta were never a provider of IVA's. Many of their cases were referred to GT & Baker Tilly. They were an introducer who also offered a DM. Myvesta no longer offers a debt advisory or bankruptcy service over here, they've gone back to the States.

Some useful (or maybe not) info for you!

Thank you Smudge and 999 is fantastic! Well done you and all the best for the future, its looking bright hey? :)
Villapq, not long and you'll be surprised how 2 months linger but its great when the last payment leaves and you can cancel the direct debit. I'm looking forward to a great xmas with my very supportive wife (she wasn't ever part of the IVA) and just knowing that come January, I won't have a lump of money coming out on the 1st is a real relief and burden lifted. Happy days!!!
IVA completed!!! Looking forward to getting my life back! Stay positive and you'll get there in the end.

Well done all round and nice to see more good press for GT. They are an excellent firm but anyone would have teething problems trying to incorporate the number of cases they have acquired over the past few years even without the VAT and PPI issues to boot.

why take on more than they can cope with then to the detriment of the fee paying customer who never picked them in the first place.thats the worst part of the iva process, the companys can change but the customer if they so wish cant.
cc received 6th January 2014 now upwards and onwards

I can totally agree with this. Taking on more cases when you cannot look after your current crop of clients is wrong and cannot be used to excuse poor customer service.

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

Hi Phil,

iva.closures@uk.gt.com

It was a young lady called Leona she was excellent!!

I have to point out that I had no issues with PPI /VAT or any of my reviews there was no complications at all through the term of my IVA.

Everything Leona promised to do she did, all my communication was through email as it leaves a 'Paper Trail' for want of a better word, and good evidence if I had decided to take it further.

But our communication was very amicable and pleasant she was very understanding and a credit to Grant Thornton so there was however no need ........ Good luck
