I am getting fed up with being told that I need utility bills in my name to apply for things! I DON'T HAVE ANY!!! I applied for a Cashplus card and I got a letter this week saying that they couldn't process my application without me sending in a utility bill and a certified copy of my passport or driving licence!

The best one though is the doctors - they want a copy of my driving licence or passport and a utility bill before they will take me on as a patient - how daft is that! When I told the dragon on reception that I didn't have any utility bills I'm sure she didn't believe me and grudgingly said they would accept a bank statement (which I'm not happy about, I don't want all and sundry at the surgery seeing my bank details) or a letter from my employer confirming my address - I could tell him I lived anywhere and he wouldn't know any different! When I questioned the policy I was told that if I didn't provide the ID I couldn't register with them!

Surely I'm not the only person with no utility bills in my name (very few places will accept mobile phone bills)? All of the bills were in Dave's name when I moved in with him, and there's no way I can change that at the moment being bankrupt.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to get it off my chest!

Hi skippy
I would take a bank statement but blank out anything of personal detail, except for the name and address as that is all they want. Hope you are having a better day, I answered your post yesterday and then it had dissapeared.

These organisations are trying to confirm identity and address.

For that reason a passport (identity) and drivers licence (identity & address) will very often do the trick if there are no utility bills.

The doctors won't take a passport and driving licence as they say these only prove who you are which is why they need a utility bill!

Thanks Ang, I'm feeling much happier. I deleted the post as I re-read it and realised how pathetic I sounded! There's no point in worrying about being BR now - what's done is done and I haven't got that much longer to go - fingers crossed!
