Well just been to Yorkshire bank to open bank account for salaries to be paid into, thought it wud be strait forward and I would come away this afternoon with new account details etc BUT the application has been referred to Head Office and gotta wait a week for answer!!! Husbands salary is due to be paid in on friday this week so I was really hoping to get the account open this week, why is nothing ever strait forward.

Have they said why it has been referred? Are you on the electoral roll? That could be one reason why they have done that.

Have you tried the Co-op?

Hi tracey73,
Yorkshire Bank are the bank I moved to when I decided on an IVA.
I did, however, open my account with them as soon as I knew I was proposing the IVA, before my creditors were aware of my impending IVA and before I stopped making payments to my creditors.
I had to make an appointment to go in branch to open the account and a credit check was done whilst I was there.
I have found the basic account I have with them to be excellent, with a Maestro card and very good online banking.

Hi, No they never said why it was referred, Im assuming its because of my poor credit rating, my IVAs not in place yet all im waiting for is to make our salaries safe away from HSBC then creditors meeting can be arranged, can you open the Co-op account online and do you receive account details strait away? I'm eager to get an account up and running asap because hubbys wages are due on fri, otherwise its gonna be another 4 weeks.

No, you have to open the Cashminder account over the phone or in branch unfortunately.

As soon as he gets paid this week then withdraw all of the money so HSBC can't get their hands on it.

Are you on the electoral roll?

Im fed up just seems like one stumbling block after another. HSBC wont be aware yet that Im proposing an IVA would they?

Tracey - why not open an saver account that takes DD and SOs (yorkshire Building society)ATM card, that way you should get a account number quick and you can always change over when the other account is up and running

What do you mean by saver account? Would they not still include credit checks etc?

No credit check - its called a Cash Transactor Account

The other options are a paid account (ie think banking etc) although fees are about £15 per month

If you've not done your proposal yet then HSBC won't be aware of it - I'd suggest that you go online and remove contact numbers from the account so they can't contact you.

Hi Tracey, think the delay will be just because you had no photo ID. I applied for my account during the IVA set up stage and my credit rating was apalling!!

Im thinking an other option could be for me to ask my Dad if we cud use his bank account to get Hubbys wages put in for this month til we manage to get our own set up,then HSBC cant touch it.

I would do that, HSBC are awful to deal with if you owe them money.

Hi
I opened one online with Nat West. Just the basic account which was immediately accepted. It takes about a week for your account number to come through but I had no problems at all. Hope you get things sorted before the onslaught .
