You and me both Melanie. I once had a mechanic aske me to release the bonnet catch, and although I knew it was somewhere down on the left as I had seen my husband do it (and how hard can it be?) I had to admit that I couldn't find it!! Felt a bit silly.

But hey, I am someone who refers to cars by their colour rather than make (except for a Beetle, Mini, Ka how can you tell?), and who still tries to get into the wrong car in the car park. Well, there are a lot of small, black squat cars around...

Luckily working in a college the motor vehicle lads are always looking for a project to demonstrate to the learners so if every mine goes wrong they get it. Only pay for parts which they source and give me the invoice for I pay through college.

It sorts things for me and they collect it and bring it back washed bless em!
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Debt Tired -- I can trump that ! I once bought a posh ( for me) car, naturally, off the forecourt the tank was dry and I had a 200-odd mile run to get it home. So I pulled into the nearest petrol station and went to open the flap ..... where was the release ??? I kid you not, it took me and any willing passer by an hour to find the flamin' thing ( no handbook!).

It was under the armrest !
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Thanks Foggy - I was on the same track as you wrt Lambda sensor, may be able to get a 2nd hand one for £15 (retail over £60) with a guarantee for 90 days.
Laughing at some of the stories above. I have a very recent one too, I travel quite often on business and get hire cars, normally mid size Vauxhall,Nissan, VW etc but a couple of weeks ago the keys to a brand new Mercedes C180 dropped through the letter box ..... wow. When I went to leave about 8pm but couldn't find where to put the ignition key as its dark and its not in the usual place on the steering column, I put light on but still couldnt find it, had turn torch on from my phone and eventually found it to the right of the steering column in the dashboard. About 10 mins have gone by now, wife has long since got fed up waiting to wave me off! Now Im ready to adjust the seat which was done eventually. Tried briefly to connect my mobile to the Mercs bluetooth but failed miserably. Now to get going, put into drive (automatic) started pulling away and some kind of audible warning alarm goes off - handbrake is not released properly, I thouhgt it was one of those automatic things which you get on some new cars these days, which release automatically as you pull away - wrong. Pulled in to start searching for handbreak release, there is a foot peddle on the left to put brake on but could work out how to release it. In the end, as there is no hand book with this hire car, I am sat there googling on my phone to find out how to release the break!! There is a little lever on dashboard, further to the right of the ignition key and lower. Eventually, after easily 20 mins I am on my way. And I considered myself reasonably knowledgeable when it comes to cars...... perhaps I am now in the bracket to qualify for a "senior moment".

I must say, getting my hands dirty under the bonnet for the first time in about 15 years was quite satisfying and fun.
Must do it more often.
