Hi does anyone know if Halifax are ok with an IVA. We are in early stages of arranging an IVA and need to move from our current bank but wondered if Halifax are ok. We have opened new accounts but are afraid they might get frozen or closed if they discover the IVA ( they arent a creditor)I know a lot of people use Co operative basic but their branch network isnt good where I am and I think Id prefer a proper current account if its possible.

We were with the Halifax albeit in a basic bank account - had no issues.

Hi, Gillhe. the lack of co-op branches poses no problems -- everything can be dome online and deposits can be made at the post office.

I read in The Times that as a country we are facing an issue of many people not being able to get a basic bank account becuase of previous credit history and bankruptcy. From what i read, i understand that a bank can be asked to refund payment that have gone out of a bank account if the IR asks. Also its costs money to run a basic account and lets be honest bansk want to make money so there is very little sense in offering them. All this HSBC, HBOS, Barclays and RBS have all agreed to relax there terms and offer account to discharged bankrupts which should make it easier for people who have an IVA.

How much money would the banks make if customers decided not to deal with an institution that had been in "financial difficulties" !

Hi Gillhe,

I am with the Halifax and opened a current account just before starting my IVA, having now finished paying IVA and just waiting for CC, i recently accepted their offer to upgrade my account to Ultimate Current Account, (via online), was accepted no problems at all.

I have never had any problems with them at all, and i was upfront and told them i was entering IVA when opening my account, I spoke to staff in a branch store rather than applying online at that time.

Great online services and also visa debit card accepted everywhere.

Hope this helps [:)]
All the best,

Regards Daz (webspark)

Completion Certificate Received 2nd October 13. [:)]

Foggy,

I totally agree with your post but people with financial hardship would be a minority. With banks it is all about profit and not risk.

On a persoanl note i would never want to do business with any of my previous creditors but i am sure in the coming years they will ask for my business in some way shape or form
