Although working for a large bank I am contracting therefore classed as self employed.

Can I still apply for an IVA or am I better to go the DMP route?

IVAs are definately suitable for the self-employed - indeed they were created specifically with self-employed people in mind - but make sure that you have a face to face meeting with the IP you choose to represent you, as this is a statutory requirement and you will gain much benefit from this.

You need to give to an IP details regarding all your financial circumstances both creditors and income and expenditure. From that information the IP will give you the most appropriate advice be it an IVA, DMP or Bankruptcy etc. Visit www.iva.com for selection of IP's all of whom give free advice. Good luck

i am self employed and we have been in our iva for over two years now..altho we didnt have a face to face with our IP we seem to have had a good experience...they do ask for quite detailed accounts and hmrc documents...both pre iva and at review times etc....
i have found all the experts on here to be a great source of extra info ...and use them a lot if i need a general query answered..indeed if you come to any of the the Frugal Friends meetings they are more than willing to have a chat to you then...keep going....
