I've just sent out all my letters of authority this week, so now all i thought i had to do when a creditor phoned me was to say that i'd sent them my letter, give them my ips name and phone number and say that any further phone calls and correspondence was to be dealt with by him. I've just received a phone call from Aqua and when i said that i wasn't speaking about my account and gave them the name and number, the lady on the other end said that was a very bad move not speaking about it with them and that they wouldn't speak to anyone until they had my letter and at the end of the call she said on your own head be it. Have i done or said the wrong thing?
Please help!
Wendy

booboo you haven't done anything wrong, what the majority will say is they haven't received authorisation to speak to a third party and until they do they will only deal with you, they will try every trick in the book but stick to your guns remember a lot of these people at the end of the phone are commision based on what they can get our of the debtors, they are just normal people like you and me doing a very horrible job that they seem to enjoy. when they repeatedly phoned me i just kept saying nothing has changed since i spoke to you x amount of hours ago, you will be hearing off my IP and they will deal with the matter, or just say in regards to the account i have been advised not to make any payments that would make creditors more favourable to others if they are trying to extract money from you.
until they all receive notification from your ip the telephone calls will continue try not to let them get you down.

Hi Wendy

Do not worry, these people are paid to stress a payment out of you, you have not done anything wrong, you are, trying to address your debt and that is a good thing. You may get calls for a while, it takes time to filter down to the bods on phone duty, simply tell them that you are proposing an IVA and dont let them say anything, write it down if you need to, tell them the name of your IP etc and tell them to please update their records. Speak calmly and politely and then put the phone down. If they interupt you tell them that they have made their position clear, and to let you do the same. Or as Neverending says, phone them first so that they have something on screen for each day. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

Good luck with it all

Thank you Kerri and Lily,
I think it was when she said I'd made a big mistake in not talking about it with her and then on your own head be it. I owe this company £750, you'd think it was thousands. I'll just keep giving my ips name and number and if i can i'll phone them in the mornings.

Thanks to you too Melanie. I am trying to be nice but to be honest rather than be stroppy i'm more apt to burst into tears. I've just had Bank of Scotland on the phone, I said the same to her as i'm saying to everyone, about sending them the letter of authority etc, when she turned on me angrily saying that it doesn't matter about any letter that they won't be talking to a third party about the account but me and only me. I have caller display do you think i can just ignore any calls that i think are from them or is it better to answer?
Thanks
Wendy

If these people cannot be decent with you, tell them that you are not prepared to put up with their harrassment and put the phone down.

Thanks again Melanie, I appreciate any and all advice. You feel you take 1 step forward then you get a call like that and its 6 steps back.

Yes it does wendy, You just want to run and hide away in your own world. The thing is they are just doing what they are paid to do, if they get a payment they get comission. They put themselves above because you owe them money, just dont let them. I couldnt do that job, could you?
I had a face to face once and it was really horrible,(I think it woke the thug in me that I didnt know was there) I wouldnt stand for it again, enough is enough.

take care and hold your head up.

Booboo

My approach was to ignore every single call , my IVA took almost 4 months to come thru & i used to have about 30 missed calls & similar voicemails but i was sure that i didn't want to speak to anyone . Remember that once your IP send out the letters the calls start all over again but don't worry continue to ignore them...
Take care
