Hello all,
I have been working at a IT company as a computer engineer for 6 1/2 years now, and they are introducing SC cleracne to all perminant staff which is my self. I have been in my IVA without any hickups since dec 2005! will this SC clerance affect my job? as i know they ask for credit checks etc. Will i fail this SC clerance?

Hi and welcome.

Forgive me for being a bit thick - but what is SC clearance?

I can actually help with this one! SC is security clearance and I had to redo mine a while ago. If you have one of those forms that is like a small novel, there will be a part about finances. They are NOT looking for all the ins and outs but be honest and put down that you are in an IVA. all they are really looking for as far as that goes is if you are in a position where you could be bribed or blackmailed.

I double checked with my HR dept and they were fine!

Thanks for that 1step - should have clicked really as I work for the police!

I do think it's laughable that some firms think you are likely to be bribed when you are doing something about your debt! It's the ones who are still struggling who can be open to persuasion!

You will have to answer truthfully Stephen, otherwise if they check, I doubt they will be happy if you have lied.

Perhaps make an anonymous call to your HR department first and ask the question? Or check on your contract of employment, see if it says anything on there.

It is a basic level of vetting, which a lot of companies working on government contracts are introducing to confirm that their employees are fit and proper for the performance of their dutiies. I do not believe that financial difficulty would affect this sort of clearance.
