Linda, I don't think you're the only one, I've heard a lot of negative stories re Npower.

I compare providers all the time but don't necessarily switch as I go back to my provider and challenge them to meet the "new price". It can be a pian as its time consuming but normally its worth it.

Personally I don't like BG because their customer service is awful.

I switched from BG and Npower some years ago and went with Atlantic.

I can't ratet them highly enough!

You can tell us about your story Linda - it may be a warning to others thinking of going with Npower.

Don't ever think you will bore us on here.

Totally agree Jan - you wouldn't bore us Linda, but others would learn lessons?

Strangely enough I deal with Npower via work and you would not believe the turn over of staff and thats at higher level. So I'm not surprised their customer service is shocking.

Hi
Well npower read our meter on more than one occasion and then decided our reading where incorrect and sent us a bill of £1200. After a lot of complaining it was reduced to £800. They agreed we could pay this back over 2 years. We are paying them £100 per month at the moment for electriciy only. However have recently had bill form them wanting to increase DD to £192 per month. Although they say on phone they will leave it at £100 I can not get it from them in writing. they only send you a bill every 6 months and the last one was over estimated but as yet they have not sent me a correct one. They are truly hopeless, when I changed to them they came out top on a comparison web site but on hind sight I would not touch them with a barge poll.

I've never used them, and on having read several threads about them in the past few months, I don't think I would.

Righty-o! I spoke with NPower this evening, attempting to change the tarrif as it would seem that we are on the elevated "Standard Rate". They advised that they would only change the tarrif if we set up a DD and the DD would have to be for £193 per month (some £40 higher than it was a few days ago!). I advised that I wouldn't and they said my account was at the "right of entry stage"- I stated that they would require a court order for that- They advised that they have one!! Can they do this, so quickly? I am due to pay my first £120 on Friday when I get paid which MAY appease them slightly and I have discovered that the immersion heater was on permanently (cough) so now it's switched off, permanently the ongoing bill should reduce! I am keep an eye on the meter and taking daily readings and working out the cost on a spreadsheet (sad, I know ;-)) to see whether our lifestyle changes are making a difference. But anyway, I am worried about a gas man kicking our door in to stick a pre payment meter in!! One thought we did have was to swap the bill into my wifes name (which luckily is different to mine) and start again and deal with the debt in the IVA. What do you think?! HELP!

I would be very surprised if it had got to that stage already and it may be a scare tactic to try and get you to pay the money. If you start to make regular payments then you may be ok.

I don't know about changing things over to your wifes name.

Hopefully one of the experts will be along to help.
