We are a prominent bureau based in Derbyshire who have monitored this forum for some time now and feel that it is an interesting source of advice and discussion to those with financial problems.

We believe that those with financial and debt problems should have all options fully explained, explored and be appropriately advised on the best course of action available to them. One of these options is an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) which can be a perfectly suitable and sensible option in some cases.

We believe we can make a positive contribution and hope to comment on current issues and topics where appropriate.

We sincerely hope that we are welcomed on this forum as we have some knowledge of the subjects discussed on here.

I can only speak for myself, but a great big welcome to iva.co.uk, and how good it will be to get your input into a range of issues.

I came across something interesting the other day, when someone mentioned to me that if you are a British Gas customer, and cannot afford the cost of a bankruptcy application, then there is a charitable trust available from BG which can help? Do you have any information on this, and other sources of finance for people who are so badly off they cannot even afford the statutory costs?

The CAB have been of great assistance to a number of people with whom we've come into contact regarding debt concerns and property issues.

One individual, a single parent, who contacted us locally had his repossession proceedings suspended as a result of the support that he received from the CAB. He was able to take control of his situation after receiving some specialist advice and representation.

Your perspective will be valuable.

The CAB organisation have been doing alot in the country on the debt issue and spoken up on many issues over borrowing and lending and written some very good submissions to the OFT and fighting the consumers corner as aways. As they are not funded by the Banks this gives that independence.

I am not in an IVA myself but did see a CAB adviser on an appointment basis and could well have been on an IVA if could not force my hubbie to sell the property to pay off debts in my name....which he orchestrated.

Hello again from NED-CAB and thank you all for the warm and professional welcome.

Fair comment Ray, there are real problems with waiting lists and NED-CAB is no different, however this is mainly due to the overwhelming number of enquiries we receive.

We have a dedicated team of experienced Debt Caseworkers supported by some fantastic volunteers who give up their time for free but we are still struggling to cope.

To anyone who understands the nature of Citizens Advice Bureau and how they are funded it will take no further explaining here.

We have attempted to combat the problem by using our years of experience in designing our own debt section on the NED-CAB website (www.ned-cab.org.uk). The feedback from our clients to date has been very positive with us hoping to develop it further. You may wish to take a look and perhaps let us know what you think.

Yes - I got an e-mail of my clients last week. There were only about half a dozen, all of which had called me to complain about unsolicited mail, and all of which are perfectly happy with their IVAs, as that is what they chose to do in the first place of their own free will - after I had discussed all solutions with them including bankruptcy.
