That's great advice from Rosepetal, and some useful tips about dealing with the college accomodation costs.

Mel will help you Pap - and the forum is always here for a virtual shoulder to cry on or a virtual hug.

Hope you are feeling ok today.

Thanks everyone.
Tried to contact the agents today but no answer so will try again Monday. The uni halls are privately owned now and 2nd year students regardless of circumstances will be treated as private rentals so the same will apply there according to what I read today.
Have emailed form to Melanie for her to look over as she suggested so will see what the outcome is there.
Must admit, I hate having to ask anyone for help or advice, I think I'm a stubborn mare to be honest. If nothing comes out of any of these enquiries it looks like I'm down to selling body parts!

Thanks again, the support here is, as always, fantastic.

The great thing about this forum is that there is always someone who understands exactly and can advise or just provide moral support and show you that whatever obstacle you're facing, it can and will be overcome. Big hugs all round x

Hi Pap,

Read your post and can understand that you dont want to tell your son. I have a daughter at Uni and working at a nursing home who rents her own flat now as she is in her 3rd year . We have two boys at home still. We didnt tell them right away we had gone into an IVA but it got to a point when the youngest would say can I have that or this.

We eventually told them we had gone into an IVA and that money would not be so readily available for things they want. They like us would have to tighten their belts and live within our budget. They understood and have been through this IVA process all the way with us now.

Maybe its time to sit down with your son and explain the situation and he may understand. As angelrainbow has said he could find out his options sooner that later.

Our daughter knows but I don't think quite understands the implications - she's 22 and divides her time between here and her fiance's house. My stepkids know but nobody else in the family has any idea.

My parents would kill me!

I believe now that the kids should know that you have gone into IVA. What the implications are so hopefully they wont end up in the same situation in years to come.

Teaching them that credit can spiral out of control and to spend wisely and not go down the route we had to take would hopefully see them better off in the future. :-)

Unfortunately it's wasted on my daughter as she spends for England, despite knowing how hard things are for us! I can see her getting into trouble in the not too distant future.

If your daughter is like my kids, they listen but dont always take things in. The youngest knows at times we have struggled and offered his pocket money to help out ( little tear there lol) I think he is more aware of money issues than the older two ever were.

Bless him! Daughter is quite good when it comes to not wanting much spent on her for birthdays etc., but she does love to spend on herself.

Hi
Quick update - have had an email exchange with Melanie and she has given some very sound individual advice which, tomorrow, we will be folowing to the letter and keeping fingers crossed very tightly that things work out. Feel a little less bleak today so maybe tomorrows conversations and telephone calls will help further.
Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again for all your support.
