I am 3 months into a joint IVA with my husband and we have just been told that our car needs 3 new tyres to get through the MOT. I was just wondering if anybody had any experience of maybe getting they're IVA payment reduced for a month and the consequences.
We are with Clearstart.
Thanks.

Hi Martha

I think if you speak to your IP and explain what has happened, they will most likely let you miss a month's payment and it will be added on later on into your IVA.

I'm sure Melanie or another expert will be along shortly.

I've had a rough time with various things going wrong and am a month behind in my payments, Melanie is my IP and very understanding, I'm doing all I can to clear the arrears before the first anniversary of my IVA. Talk to your IP and hopefully they'll understand your situation and be sympathetic.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Do you have a car maintenance allowance in your expenditure to allow for this kind of expense - incidently mine is £68 per month

Hi there martha it woulfd be expected from tyour car maintenance allowance though if you dont have one then it could if you earn overtime be offset against that possibly. Hope you sort out soon. Cars are so expensive to repair. Last year ours cost us more to keep going than it was worth.

Martha is unlikely to have accumulated sufficient of her car maintenance allowance to cover the cost of three new tyres. I suggest a request to miss a payment is in order, with a plan to catch up with the arrears in the same manner Lesley is doing being a sensible arrangement.
