By whats being said, I dont think they will. However, I guess you could open a basic account now if you wanted so that should the worst happen you can get any monies, S/O & D/D transfered over quickly.

Lloyds TSB never closed my current account when I was in my IVA. I am now with Think Banking, and so far so good, although the staff can be a little pushy when you first contact them, which did put me off a bit.

LloydsTSB haven't said anything about closing my account with them in my IVA but HSBC froze my account well before the creditors meeting.

Didn't matter as I'd already switched to Nationwide but they seem to have vastly different attitudes.

I agree with andydavie and skippy 13 (waving hello). Thinkbanking is a pure joy because you don't have to think. You pay £12.50 a month for them to think for you (manage your account); and you get a maestro card. It's good everywhere you happen to be. The so and dd are easy to set up and you are never overdrawn. Good luck in deciding.

Hi guys.

Think Banking is a very interesting and potentially useful product. Would you mind if I asked you what the arrangement is with regards to any contract you agree to take out with them? Are you guaranteed that the fees for the account will remain the same for a period of time or is their a possibility that they could rise at any point in the future?

Best Regards

Hello, Oliver, the monthly fee can increase. I remember when andydavie first had his thinkbanking account he stated (please confirm, andydavie)that the monthly fee was approximately £8.00. I opened my account in March 2007, and it the fee was £12.50. So, it appears that the fee does change.

Take care.

I do think that the fees are a teensy weensy bit high, especially as I only have 2 direct debits! I think the main reason that I begrudge them is that, despite being completely useless with money I always ran my bank account ok, and only ever had 2 bank charges, neither of which were my fault! Sadly that isn't taken into account when you are a 'bankruwoman' ([:)] DD!) so no-one else wanted me!

Do you know if they have any plans for internet banking? I'm really missing that, and the text messages aren't as good as internet banking for me.

Thanks for that guys. It's an interesting option. I do think paying for an account is slightly questionable but understand why people would do that and also think that all bank accounts have to be paid for anyway even if it's indirectly. The office of Fair Trading is looking into this now and wants to make the cost of having a bank account more transparent.

It does also slightly concern me that the fees for this account could increase in the future. When it comes to financial products I can be a pessimist though and I truley hope that Think don't increase their fees once they have built up a bigger client base in order to increase profits.

That is one thing that worries me Oliver. I have been impressed by the service I have received from them so far, but there is no way I would have gone with them if I could have got a bank account elsewhere. I applied for a Co-op bank account, but they wanted identification, would only accept originals and wouldn't send them back! I could have had the originals certified, but I was in a rush to get an account as the Co-op weren't exactly speedy at getting my paperwork sent out and I was coming up to the cut off for my salary to be paid in. Also, there was no local branch for me to take the ID in to so I was stuck. I could have tried Nationwide but I already had an account with them pre-BR so I didn't think I'd gte one - I might try though if the fees go up again!

I totally understand the position you found yourself in Skippy. Let's hope Think's seemingly good work continues and they don't get greedy like some of the other UK financial institutions.
