Hi All, I've had an IVA for 2 years now, i'm in the process of being made redundant. So looking for a job, will the iva effect my chances of getting a job, as i am aware that companies do credit checks. Also how do i get a basic bank account, only got a savings account, have to get to a branch and get a cheque raised every month to send to my IVA payment.

Seek out the Coop who will open a bank account with a cheque book or HSBC or Abbey - anyone who was not a creditor of yours.

Are you to receive any redundancy monies?

Not heard that employers seek credit checks on potential new employees though

Yorkshire Bank have a good basic account with a maestro card & online banking & no credit check. Though you do have to apply in the bank or by phone.
Natwest have a good basic account with a solo card & online banking - you can apply on line too & there are no credit checks either.
If you worry about being asked why you want such account - as banks always want to give you a better account with overdraft. Just say you are just wanting a basic account to put house keeping monies into. Thats what I said to Yorkshire bank when they asked me about over drafts etc & that was fine with them.
I am sorry to hear about your outcome of your job situation & hope things work out for you & that your IVA company supports you through such a difficult time.
Well done for getting this far with your IVA especially with only having a savings account, that can not of been easy - lyns.
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X

I think you will find that HSBC are not sympathetic to people in IVA's David.

You can get one with the normal current account, but not with the Cashminder, which I think is the account given to IVA's and BR.

Do all companies do credit checks? Would have thought it depends on your line of work?

No, I don't think all companies do credit checks, I think it does depend on what job you go for.

It should tell you on the application form anyway.
