Hi ALl I have 21.5K debt and am struggling bif time jusat paying the interest on cards. I am trapped and want to consolidate but the chances getting that right now are minimal. SO I am thinking about an IVA however my partner lives in the US and I am thinking of going out to the states at some point and I need to know if I do an IVA keep up with the payments. does it have an impact on Immigration or getting a Greencard etc. If I wanted to start a business to try and make something of myself would I have a problem doing this with an IVA too?

An IVA, DMP or Bankruptcy may be the right solution - speak with an experienced IP and they will advise the most appropriate way to support you taking into account your thoughts around immigration and green cards etc - good luck

I believe you can do an IVA from the States.

I recommend that you speak to an IP to get advice. Visit www.iva.com for a list of companies and reviews, or click on the expert link on the left hand side of the page. The professionals on there all come highly recommended and will advise you as to the best way forward for you.

Thank you for the support. I feel optimistic. I just have to get the debt of my credit cards that are really high intrest. Only way is consolidation or IVA. I just dont want it to harm my chances of going to the states if thats what my partner!

Once it is set up, and you can continue to make the payments, I don't think it is a problem.

You'll have no problem in making remmittances to your chosen IP from the States. We have done a number of IVA's where the debtor is living and making remmittances from abroad. Sort out an IP as advised by Kallis3

Hi David thank you for the advice and I think this is the best option for me right now. Do you know if it has any impact on Immigration or visa applications? I am not in the US as yet and so wan to make sure an IVA has no impact on being let into the country.

Thank you all for your kind advice

All the best

Nikki

An IVA should have no impact on your immigration or visa application - but it might be best to check this with the US immigration department which you can do on an anonymous basis.

Your personal financial status has no bearing with visiting the USA on a holiday Visa. However when applying for a work visa it might have.

Having got the forms myself (some years ago admittedly), you had to put down all your financial information.

Their website might have information on this.
