Hi, and thanks, so much you guys for this service - it is an enormous help :-)

I'm almost at the end of my IVA - couldn't get a re-mortgage so I'm making a year's extra payments. The monthly payments are lower than they were last year and my pay's gone up, so I want to start saving. Do you know which providers will offer a savings account to someone in my position? I just rang the Co-op and they said they decline bankrupts and probably would turn me down. They said bankrupts aren't allowed to save until they'd paid off their debts, is the same for IVA holders?

Many thanks,
Carolyn

Hi and well done on coming to the end!

I'm with the Natwest and had no problem setting up a savings account. I'm sure others will know of other establishments that offer savings account.

Glad you find the forum helpful. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Well done for coming this far Carolyn.

Whoever you spoke to at the Co-op is talking rubbish! You are allowed to save whether you are BR or in an IVA - don't they realise that people have allowances?!?!

I would suggest trying Nationwide, Santander or Yorkshire Building Society - I've had no problems with them and I've been BR.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on x

Post Office could be another one to try.

Hi
Strange comment from the Co-op about bankrupts unable to save until they are discharged. Do they not realise that in bankruptcy a person keeps between 30 and 50% of their disposable income

I can never understand why they do this, but I know that Co-op are well known for saying no to savings accounts.

Thanks, everyone :-) I applied to the Co-op and they approved it 'subject to a few formalities' that they're putting in the post. Can't believe I'm in a position to actually save now.
