As long as there is no overdraft facility a current account is OK. Sometimes you cab get away with it if you open it before your credit history is too damaged.

I have a Natwest account. When I started the IVA I opened that one and applied to co-op too, they both accepted ! I tend to use co-op day to day and only dabble with the natwest account to keep it "live". I was initially frightened to use it in case they closed it down on me, but, a year (almost) in and it's still open.

No, the only accounts that the majority of banks will give to people in an IVA is a basic account.
The others won't touch us with a ten foot bargepole.

I'm with Natwest and do think they're a good bank, I have noticed just recently although the customer care is still excellent in branch they've closed some of the cashier windows so queueing is now more than it's ever been x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

kev, looks like you've opened a current account if they have sent you a cheque book as you dont get one with a natwest basic account, there no overdraft either.
I have opened a current a/c with no overdraft.
have to send, one cheque a year.
Its the only way we can pay the yearly groud rent and building insurance. As they dont take card payments.

Sorry had to go to work, I haven't opened letters yet I think I need reassurance I am doing the right thing? but realistically it's the only thing I can do.... is it normal to feel like a leper?
It's more than normal to have a whole mix of emotions but what you must remember is you're addressing your financial problems and moving on to a solution that will benefit yourselves and give your creditors the best return.
Try not to be too hard on yourself, very soon you'll be firmly on your way to debt freedom. x
