Just take it slowly, one thing at a time. You are far from stupid -- you are doing the best to deal with the situation reponsibly. As I have said before, even countries get themselves in a financial mess now and then, and the banks haven't been to good with their books either. Often it's a combination of many things (most of which are beyond our control) that has got us where we are. But, there is a way out and gradually you will find your way. Remember "softly softly catchee monkey"

Hey recovering.

Don't feel bad about how "daft" you might have been. You've done the right thing by coming on here and looking at IVA's.

Bank statements are a funny one. I remember when I started down the IVA path, I opened "THE DRAWER". I'm sure many people here had a similar place where you check the return address on the horrible envelope that nasty postman put through your door and decide it's something you really don't want to read, so it gets filed away for if you ever win the lottery..

You can open everthing that comes through your door now so breath easy. I opened a Co-operative account. Cancelled all my DD's with Lloyds. I then waited for the companies to contact me saying "they had been informed by my bank that their Direct Debit was cancelled, and could I kindly call them to set up another". Simples!

Keep your chin up... Things will get better! I promise.

hi, you're standing in the same place we've all stood,it is stressful but with all the support here you will get there.

kall once told me no question is daft.[;)]

we went to Co Op. once we got our new account no. we went on line, cancled all dd's - scary but must be done. we rang and set up the one's we could, some had missed dates due to setting it all up but it was no problem - some we paid by phone with our new Co Op card, others agreed to take 2 payments the next month - NOTE to ensure you don't go overdrawn you must be strict with withdrawls & only take out your allowances for food etc.

this period is important for learning to follow your new budget set with your IP for food etc.
we've all felt scared to death at some point but things will get better, honest.

we used this account change to "tydy" up dates for dd's to go out, much more organised now[:)]!

we paid NO token payments, save every spare penny for your emergency fund! you're IP will contact creditors, we wrote&sent letters recorded delivery - made no difference, creditors still chased payments.

do take care with who you choose, you're vulnerable at the moment but making progress[;)]
Nothing stays the same...everything changes..hang on in there!

Are you actually taking advice from an insolvency practitioner Recovering - as a lot of this running around and background work can be done by them to save you the stress factor.

I know it's easy for me to say but try not to get too stressed. The forum is here for you at anytime for advice and, more importantly, support.

Which company will you be speaking to?

Did you only speak to one company recovering? you can speak to a few before making up your mind who to act for you as is good advice. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I remember these days well and really feel for you. You've made the hardest step by admitting there is a problem and started to seek advice. Good luck x

Agree with Lesley that it might be an idea to speak to a couple more. The experts that post on here come highly recommended.

hi, we went with Mel and her team, they were so,so easy to talk too. we felt so ashamed,so frightened but they've heard it all before - you're not alone, they won't judge you.

you do need to take care who you chose to have as your IP.

i cried my eyes out several times when talking to them,i was so scared to death at the serious mess we were in. have your tissues ready,i did! sometimes you need a cry. even my big strapping hubby cried a couple of times.

it might help to have a pen& paper too.

i'm glad you're talking to another IP, above all,Mel knows her stuff....and she doesn't bite[;)]

You don't need to be scared to speak to Mel's team, they are very understanding and have a lot of clients who cry on the phone.

Let us know how you get on.
