It should not cost you anything to propose an IVA to your creditors, so you have nothing to lose by doing so - and if HSBC say no, then you can look to the other options available.
Call centre people are not the ones who vote in an IVA. As others have said, they will say you won't get one just to scare you.
Give an IP a call and they will give you advice and tell you all the options open to you.

Hi there- just wanted to welcome you to the forum and echo everyone else's advice. Please contact an expert and let them decide ( free of charge) if an IVA is a viable option. They will not propose one if they don't think it has a chance of being approved. There are other options available and you have nothing to lose.
Please don't let yourself get this far and do nothing, you'll regret it.
Hello all, thank you so much for all the advice and support, it is much appreciated. I just need to find the courage to do it (the IVA)! As yet, I am still on the fence and trying to think of another way around it all. It is still quite a scary prospect for me, an IVA, but again, the thought of creditor's harassing me is even more scary.
You need to speak to an IP and discuss things with them. This does not tie you into anything, it's just free advice so that you know what options are open to you.
It is scary doing an IVA, but also a relief that you have got your life back on track.

Hi juliada, I would like to second what facingitogether has said, i didn't realise the stress i was under until the day before my creditors meeting when i broke down at work and cried but the relief when i eventually got the call to say that my IVA had been accepted was a feeling that i can't describe, yes i got myself into this situation but i have now taken a very positive step to rectify and i haven't really looked back. The next few years will be difficult but at least i have peace of mind and can sleep at night. Please consider carefully what you need to do but seek advice and i don't think you can go far wrong with the excellent experts we have on here. Good luck and i wish you well in whatever path you choose to go down.
15 down, 45 to go.
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.
IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
Hi Juliada, please don not think me rude, but could you let me know how you are able to get that amount of tax credit - I know we all try to work for a living, but getting by is almost impossible I am trying to leave a situation at home , but am forced to remain in a distressing situation to say the least - and whats stopping me is being able to afford to get out.

Hi fifdee, I have got two boys, one at nursery, the other at big school and my husband works from home and I have two jobs. For ages, tax credits underpaid us and since they wrote to us last, they said they will pay us more to make up for the lack of working tax credit that we didn't get for over two years! The thing is, they don't know their arse from their elbow and we have no reference point to go by they write with all this gobbledegook and we're just having to take their word that the figures are correct in lin with the information we give them. it's a bit like russian roulette! This is why I said in my earlier post, if they were to reduce what we get, then we would be so screwed. It's bound to happen somewhen, say at next tax credit renewal. They'll say they've overpaid us and so it goes on..
If your situation is too distressing, can you not do a bunk to a b&b for a couple of days to give yourself a breather and sort out the finances then? Are you in an IVA?

I can recommend Melanie.

Hi Rockin Diner, the bank wouldn't even consider a debt managed loan let alone a consolidation. No, they're having none of it- pay up or pay the price!
thanks for that, I too have two children -6 and 11, and work for £850 take home, I also get £550 credits, but with £400 /m debts, it is touch and go whether the sums would work, and no I am not in an IVA, just deciding which is the best way to go
therefore, having worked out all money to be spent on rent, c.taxes, electric etc, not taking into account any debt payments at all, I have about £10 left - so now what do I do??? stay here like I have been doing??
