I actually find that I have more freedom now as well Foggy - I know my limits and am quite happy to live within them.

i agree with you there foggy, an iva is certainly no more restricting than being up to the limit on credit cards, with huge payments of interest to be made.
i have had a lot of things to pay out on the past two months, and cash has been very tight, but it would have been equally so if i were not in an iva. at least in an iva i am only concerned with juggling the money i have to pay for things, and not concerned also with how i would repay that money.
we still have the occassional treat, meal out, day out etc, i do not however go on nights out with colleagues, i could never justify £60 on a boozy night out, with nothing but a hangover to show for it.
we eat well and all of our utilities are paid. and we actually spend more time together doing the simple things, so you can certainly still enjoy life in an iva, and i for one am grateful everyday for mine.

We're not social people at all. I never go on the Christmas do from work, never went when I could afford it!! We do go out for a lunch at a local Frankie and Bennys at Christmas but it is funded by my payout from the lottery syndicate which usually amounts to about £20.

I don't know whether it's fortunate or otherwise but I never suffer with a hangover!! Wouldn't pay £60 for a night out though.

We have a takeaway sometimes but otherwise are content to stop at home and watch TV.

I'm actually quite happy that I can't do certain things like go out on a Saturday afternoon for 'window shopping' and come back with several lots of items I didn't really need, all bought on the plastic!

A not to expensive "Red" warmed to room temperture - goes down well with any food.
As our house overlooks a Loch - we can sit on the window seats in the warmth, glass of wine in hand and watch the activity on the loch - there is something calming about water - even in the horrible weather

Don't like red, it's either rose, white, cava or if I'm really pushing the boat out, champagne!!

Your location sounds wonderful ginger!

good thread. we had a conversation about this last week.

if you can't manage present wages/income i feel you wouldn't manage a huge win,it's about a budget within your means. we need to be able to budget whatever the amount we have,a huge amount won't fix bad habits.

we've all seen stories in the newspapers where folk have won the pools or lottery only to spend the lot and end up BR.

tajsiva- glad to "see" you about, hope your weeks a bit better.

so many posters say children learn from this time too. the gift of time with children is what they'll treasure& remember more than anything, board games, baking, walking the dog, playing footie in the park after a picinc etc.

hope you guy's with kids are managing to put a few £ aside for Christmas food treats,we've been putting 3 on a saving card but it's tough some weeks.

our treat is a cheap carvery & a drink before home to share the pudding we buy from Asda...chocolate fudge cake with cream mmm, 4 servings for the price of one bought out!

i never want to go back to the hell we went through in October last year,we were drowning.
Nothing stays the same...everything changes..hang on in there!

Me too Jan, Pembrokeshire is my fav place would love to live there one day maybe.
Rosepetal - we get saving stamps from morrisons helps towards christmas food etc, we are not in our iva yet but living like we are and already it's helping. It's all about learning to budget and think differently if I don't need it I won't buy it and especially if I don't have the money. My mum is very old school pays in cash with everything they never had credit in their days, so now I'm learning to think like my mum, if only I had listened to her lol.

I'd love a decent size win just to clear my debts and help the kids out and not have to worry about money ever again. I wouldn't go stupid.

I certainly wouldn't be going BR if I won a fair amount!!

My stepkids and daughter are adults now and while I like to think they have learned from our mistakes, I know they haven't. The grandkids are young enough that they are happy with the small amount we can spend on them.

Ours is a takeaway but no puddings! I can't eat them and hubby rarely does.
