Hi Claire and welcome. You done well phoning Melanie team, they are brilliant. I have just started my IVA with them and I feel that I could not have chosen a better company to represent us.I sent the first IVA payment at the same time I sent our signed proposals and our IVA was accepted on the 18th of January. Like harrysmummy said they will not put a proposal forward if they think will be rejected.
Make sure you open a new bank account asap with a bank not connected with your creditors and start moving your direct debits(mortgage, council tax......) to the new account. It is a daunting process to start with but hopefully all be over in a few weeks and you can see light at the end of the tunnel. lesley is a good example that it can be done!
Good luck and keep posting and reading this forum, it helped me a lot.

As the Knight said to Indiana Jones in the movie when picking the cup to drink from.

'You picked wisely'

Best wishes for a debt free future.

Can also vouch for Melanie Giles and her team. Made first contact with Mel at the beginning of Nov and after a few hiccups IVA accepted last week. Its the best thing we have ever done!

Hi Claire and welcome, me and my hubby can also vouch for Melanie Giles and her team, we are just starting out with them on the iva route, I first spoke to Tina in Dec who was more than helpful and easy to talk to, lovely lady and today I moved onto the next stage and spoke with Claire who is absolutely brilliant and more than helpful. So far so good, and I can say I have spoken with them a few times and they have always helped and advised me no matter what my issue was, they have been extremely helpful.
I am so glad I found this forum as we first contacted cap who couldnt see us for 2 month then we contacted cccs, but we were very unsure, one minute they recomended iva the next a dmp, it just didnt seem right with them, but once I'd spoke to Tina I was totally comfortable and knew straight away that was the company I wanted to go with and like harrysmummy we feel quite confident in them especially from all the reviews on here!
Good luck in whoever and whatever you decide to go with x

Iva is not an easy journey but so worthwhile, good luck to you.

Hi Claire,

Forgot to mention like some of the others, if only i had found this site a few years ago. I had never heard of an IVA or DMP until 6 months ago! Like you, our payments were just covering interest only. My first port of call was CCS, who said that after completing the online forms a DMP was the only option. That was with over £85000 debt. They also said they would not put us forward for an IVA as a DMP was better for my creditors! I was outraged and then luckily found this site and Mel and her team. All options were considered DMP, IVA and BR, but both of us agreed that IVA was in our best interests. Its already making our lives so much happier. No worries of when to pay all the credit cards, the phones calls that lasted for about 6 weeks prior to the meeting have stopped and no more letters in the post demanding payment. The Mods and others on this forum have also been so helpfull and kind.

Hi claire...sounds a bit strange to try for an iva then dmp if no luck! i am at the start of this journey and like you was unsure what to do but knew couldnt cope with debts anymore. I foubd this forum and its the best thing. Tons of advice, non judgemental and friendly. We are with Melanie Giles after originally contacting Payplan. I was not entirely confident with payplans figures/attitude and that was partly why i felt uneasy entering an iva...then found forum, read posts and iva.com reviews of various companys/IP's. We have signed up with Mel and things are progressing well and IVA hopefully running by March. I would aboid company thats asking upfront costs and although im biased now i would contact Mel/team and run through your situation with them...i cant vouch for anyone else but there are many people on here with other companys eho have had good experiences...you will know when youve found who you are happy with but good idea to speak to a couple before signing up to anything, good luck and keep posting if anymore questions.

Hi and welcome.

I just wanted to share my experience. I felt awful that I had got myself into debt and was like you paying minimum payments and not paying anything off but I also found myself with no money for anything, not even for basics like food.

I then turned to payday loans to get me through, which got me even less money a month.

I then had a look for help and found the IVA solution and did some research. I was then scared to take the leap but contacted a company who discussed it with me then advised I should stop paying all my bills and start paying them, this was before any paper work had been done, so alarm bells rang. I pulled out and then they started to hassle me for cancelling. I cannot remember the comapny now, but dodge anyone who asks for payments before anything has actually happened.

I found IVA.com and this forum and read all the reviews and also the forums comments. I found Melanie was highly rated and also had a lot of positive feedbacl. I am not trying to guide you who to use as this is yours and your choice alone, however, from the initial phonecall to the paper work, I felt comforted and more relaxed.

I had my IVA accepted in Jan and the difference it has made to my life, yes my credit file will be effected, but why would I want more credit when that is what has got me here? Not to sure why people would want credit after they have reached the IVA point, but everyone is different.

I can now live again and the change in me is so noticeable, I am not worrying about the months ahead and I do not have to work out how much is going out and what I have left each month. It really has changed my life and Mel and her team have been fantastic,

Please take your time, review all the companies, have several chats, you have property so maybe different to my situtaion, but do not be afraid to ask.

I know this is a start of a long journey for me, but I am living again!

I just wanted to say, as many others have, you have made an excellent choice in contacting Melanie Giles and her team! They were excellent when we did our F&F settlement back in April 2011. They were supportive, helpful, reassuring and efficient. You will not be disappointed with their excellent and first class service. Our lives and the lives of our children have been transformed. We are now living life and as far as myself and my husband are concerned it's down to all the lovely people at Melanie Giles. :) Good luck! :)

Kelly im not evenin the IVA yet as waiting Mel to return to sign off and baby expected anyday nowbut the difference just opening up and discussing our situation has lifted such a weight off us. I can relax and enjoy new baby and not feel guilty about having time off work to be a mum. You and the team are life changers and in some cases i imagine life savers. This forum reveals true extent of peoples finance probs and the stress it causesto familys. I know it will be a long road and no doubt difficult at times when dont have the safety net of an OD or a CC but the future for us and our children will be so much better. Keep up the good work!
