Hi. My IVA ended a couple of years ago and has now recently been removed from my credit file as its past 6 years. However, today I have received a letter from Westcot Credit Services asking to verify that I live at the address. Just wondering what I should do as my credit file is clean now and I owe nothing further. Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome.
Very strange - hopefully one of the experts can advise. If it were me then I'd just ignore it.

Hi
If Westcot Credit Services were included in your IVA than you have nothing to worry about as the debt has now been settled.
You could either shred the letter and ignore it or give Westcot Credit Services a call and inform them that the debt was included in your IVA and they should then remove you from their records.
IVA Official Completed 27th July 2012!!!

Hi. Thanks for the replies. No they weren't included. Most of it was sold onto max recovery. Maybe they have now sent on to Westcot. What should I do? What can they do? I don't want them chasing for money and I thought this would all stop. It's been over 6 years now. Thanks.

Unless you have got into debt since the end of the IVA, could be council tax or a parking fine, then I would ignore them.
From the look of it Wescot are just debt collectors, the only thing they can do is write to you (probably ever more threatening letters which you should just ignore if you do not owe the money then they will stop), phone calls (again ever more threatening and wanting credit card payments over the phone) or door step visits (they have no right to access your property like a bailiff they are just normal people employed to come and make you feel small to get you to pay them, it has been known for door step callers to pretend to be bailiffs, if someone does do this ask to see their bailiffs ID, if they are not a real bailiff they are committing fraud.
They do go away, they will be either on a fixed fee or a percentage of money recouped, as soon as they see it is not straight forward and you and not going to pay they will go away as they are not getting any more money for the work they do.
The only time to worry is if a bailiff calls, then there must be a debt that has been taken to court and proven.
In this case ask for a copy of the court judgement and ask for time to look into it as you know nothing about it.
If you believe you do not owe the money then never pay them.. If you feel really threatened then just call the police..
NEVER let a bailiff into your house...........

If the letter is just asking to verify you live at that address then I would ignore it as you are under no obligation to respond to what at this point is nothing more than junk mail.
Sadly what is likely to follow is a demand for payments for debts included in you IVA.
If this happens to me then here will be my approach to the DCA.
They will receive one Letter including a copy of the completion certificate.
The letter will state that the debt was included in tha IVA and the debt is therefore unenforceable. Add in the courts dates of the starting and ending of the IVA and anything else relevant.
It will then end with this.
I consider this matter closed and no further correspondence will be entered into. If you wish to pursue this matter to court please note my costs that will requested at the hearing for this unenforceable debt will be as follows.
1. Travel - 40p per mile + Parking or any other incidental costs at actual cost.
2. Hotels/Sustenance at actual cost.
3. Additional correspondence by letter to yourselfs or the courts - £50 per letter
4. Lost earnings - £250 per day
5. £50 for each subsequent letter from yourselves demanding payment.
6. £50 for each phone call from yourselves demanding payment.
7. Compensation for worry/stress generated - £1000
Maybe not for the faint hearted but if one of them tries it on me that's what they're gonna get.

Me too, that made me smile. xx
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.
