Hi,

I entered into an IVA back in 2009 and have just left my job to set up my own business. My IVA runs for another 18 months.

I have been refused Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability insurance from the NFU who have been my insurers for many years.

They also now tell me that they are cancelling my car insurance and this will be back dated to 2009. (At no stage did they ask me if I was in an IVA so I don't think I have misled them.)

I am slightly concerned but need to find another insurer. Are you able to suggest any Insurers that would be worth talking to. The business i am in would require clients to travel in my car and is property related covering a number of areas. These include, doing Inventories, acting as a relocation agent for renting, acting as a buying agent, managing let properties, also doing general painting and decorating myself and general handyman work.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Simon

Best thing to do is find another insurance broker who can give advice, I am not sure why the NFU would not deal with you due to your IVA are you sure there is no other reason.

If the are cancelling your policy back to 2009 are they giving you all your premiums back..

Check your current policy to see if it says you must inform them of being in an IVA if not then ask them on what basis they are cancelling..

I have my own business and have never had a problem with ins but it is a Ltd company so may be different to a sole trader..

I was just about to ask that! Ask to speak to the underwriter. I never followed it up but I had car insurance with them for years but they jacked it from £800 to £1600 one year during my IVA without reason(subaru prodrive) That's why you have a ltd Co whilst in a IVA! but even so told them to poke it

I've got my company insurances with 'Hiscox'.

I have heard that getting pay-monthly car insurance can be tricky. Personally, I'm with Esure - no problems.
My opinions are just that: Based on my experience and being a self-employed IVA customer.
