hi there, i am in the process of getting an iva. today i got a call from a catalogue company ( very) asking was i ready to make a payment including last months arrears, to which i politely replied that i had spoken to someone the last time about not being finantially in a position to make full payment and therefor could only afford £80 as i was having finantial difficulties. i asked them at that time if they could spread out my payments over a longer period of time so as to make them more affordable and they said no, however they did say they could reduce them by around 14 pounds for a month or two..anyway i sent what i said i could afford and they put me in arrears. now since then i have started work on a iva and do hope to get an iva. well they contacted me today and the lady was not very nice to me...she asked for full payment when i said i have been experiencing finantial problems she flat said well thats not waht we deal with, we want to know if your gonna make payment, i offered her my iva ref and at first she didnt want it. then she asked if i could make a token payment i said yes i will..and i did, she then asked how i got myself into this situation..and i explained that to her..rising costs..no income raise etc..after that she said ' oh by the way we dont work with payplan ...and you will be dealing with nco..whoever they are? please help...feeling really scared right now!!

Interesting to see a creditor telling you that they "don't work with Payplan". I wonder what Payplan will make of that!

I would not feel scared by this bully. Let your IP firm deal with them and you will soon have your IVA in place I am sure.

Hi misssilly, some creditors will continue to call you until the IVA is agreed and their records are updated.

If you have to answer the calls, stay calm and give them your IP details. We use to unplug the phone or put them on hold!

It can be scary and quite wearing at times, so use this forum for support. So many of us have been where you are now and it will get better.

thankyou melanie and julie..i didnt know where to turn and admit to being really vulnerable...so funny as i have been with this particular company for many many years with no problems at all in fact they couldnt give me enough credit, and them bang right outa the blue when i fail to fully make one payment they are in there with there frightening stories of its not us you will be dealing with...its graet to be able to talk on here, i dont know how i would cope otherwise. i will talk to my ip tomarrow about this incident and hopefully they will look into this behaviour from what i would have called a reputable firm..that is until now! but thank you again for your advice..i will take it and i suppose im gonna have to get a bit tougher from now on. x

Hello, just put them on hold. They will soon go away. You cannot pay creditors outside of the iva and they know that. I put all the details of my iva and ip details in writing and sent them to my creditors by recorded delivery so they could not say they did not get the letter. Hope they stop soon.

Hello
Dont waste a second of time on that person If they call again tell them you are setting up an IVA and then tell them to take your phone number off their database if they give an excuse just say If you call me again I will report you under the data protection act then put the phone down .
All they need is a contact address So any phone calls tell them that Take control of the situation be positive You are on the road now Dont pay any money out to anybody Speak with your IP company they will advise you if you need to pay or not I did token payments and should not It would have been better in my pocket
Toughen up chin up a month or so you will be fine Any letters send them to your IP
dont worry it will pass

Hi, please try not to worry we were called constantly by our creditors. Sometimes the call centre's who ring deny knowledge that you are applying for an IVA, sometimes I suspect because they don't know, others because they perhaps receive commission payments based on how much revenue they manage to obtain from customers in arrears. Having said that some were really helpful and understanding, placing accounts on rolling periods so we were not constantly chased as the IVA was being put in place. Good Luck and chin up!

Hi

Whilst I was waiting for my IVA to be approved, I wrote to all my creditors explaining and asking them to only contact me in writing in future.

This worked for a while, but gave me a breather from the phone calls.

Don't worry once your IVA is approved all this will go away. Hardly get any post nowadays.

If your IVA looks like it will be progressed then my advice would be to stop making token payments and save yourself a small pot of money for emergencies when the IVA starts. Not all IVA companies will advise this but many of the people on here have done this.
I was so pleased I did, as I got hit with a £370 car repair bill after my first IVA payment, without the emergency pot from not paying the token payments I would never have been able to pay this.

Good luck with the IVA being accepted, and don't worry about Very .... they are on my creditor list and their bark is much worse than their bite [8D]

They stopped harrassing me very soon after IVA approved, I just quoted a given number at them. Never heard from them again. Good Luck, its tough but worth it and you can sleep easy again once all sorted. All been where you are so keep going x

Good luck with your IVA, just hope it's not the same company as ours or BE as they will take over the bullying and you will get endless nasty letters and phone calls. One thing to do once the IVA is started is change your telephone number and don't tell your IP.
never ending pain

Don't worry about Very. They seem to be a very strange company to deal with. They approved my IVA, approved my full and final and are still sending me bills.

One day soon I will get round to dealing with them - when you're IVA is approved you will feel very differently about your creditors but while you are awaiting approval you feel that everything will go wrong.

We made no payments to any of our creditors for 3 months prior to our meeting and it didn't go against us.
