Lily, please don't stop posting! You have helped me so much since I joined the forum. Like you, I am not an 'expert' in the qualification sense of the word, but I think that we have both learned something along the way, and if that can help other people then our posts are worth something.

You don't need to be qualified to have expertise!

Onwards and upwards!!!

Sorry if I've stirred up a hornets nest, it was unintentional. Luckily I live in Scotland where IVA's don't go - up here it's a 'Scottish Trust Deed' - pity there is not a STD forum!. Up here it can be from a few pence in the pound (not 25p)and lasts for three years, not five. Seems a much better system than 'down south'. Unfortunately can't really offer help with worries over IVA's. I was told to stop paying my debts on the 13th of April, 17 days later the trust Deed was signed and sent to the ceditors and five weeks later it was 'Protected' i.e. creditors cannot pursue. Word is that the Scottish Executive is thinking of changing to something along the lines of the English IVA's (any info Melanie?)anyway hope not.

i am sorry but , do we not think that we have more things to worry about other than who is called an expert and who isn't, as admin says the likes of lily who has made over 500 posts have been there to help us and pass on their valuable experiences, of course there are times we still need to post and ask questions about our own situation, the forum doesn't state that we have to be experts in iva's and i am sorry if that is confusing but we are experts in the process of the iva and the lead upto the proposal and how it effects our daily lives, i am not having a go but it is the lilies of this board that keep us sane and offer a life line when we need it and she has truly been that to me many a time.
keep posting lily

big pete i am sure there will be many questions you may like to ask along the way and those who have shared the same experience will only be to glad to help you out, and i am sure you have experiences about your own situation, we never asked to be called experts by the way, welcome to the forum and hope you can gain soemthing from us all

Hi kerri
I think your comments 'crossed in the post' as above timed at 16.24 decribes how I got out of my problems..
I think it's about time this expert or not expert was knocked on the head - I mentioned it only as when I checked this site last year looking for info I was initially confused, but it clarified later when I had read more - it is only a comment not an attack! So carry on Lilly!

hi bigpete i agree it should end here, you say you have a STD, there have been 1 or 2 posters from Scotland on the boards who would welcome any information that you could relay to them when they post.
as to the forum we have become quite a large family and have all gelled together sharing our experiences a lot of us are out there alone and welcome the fact that they have someone to chat to, as you will have noticed they will rally around each other to protect them which i am sure you will understand, i hope you can enjoy the forum and hope you get something out of it too, so lets put this behind and start again.

And just a few words from me!!

People post on the forum for a variety of reasons, but mainly because they are looking for a specific technical answer to a question or they are looking for moral and pastoral support through a difficult time. I can happily deal with the technical and practical side of insolvency administration, however the advice and support our regular forum users provide in terms of sharing experiences, difficulties or just having a pair of ears (or fingers) at the other end is invaluable.

I actually think that there is already a distinction between the technical experts, in that mine and James' mugshots and our own names appear on the site. The rest of you ably manage with your wonderful nicknames, and are just as valuable with regard to your time and input.

I can honestly say that I have been practising in insolvency administration now for over 20 years, and a day does not go by without me learning something new from one of you. We are all able to share our knowledge.

BigPete - to answer your specific question, Trust Deeds are likely to be replaced by IVAs in Scotland over 2008/2009. So you are lucky you got in there early!

Bigpete

Quote; 'when folk are called 'Forum Expert' when they are in as deep a mess as most of us - surely 'Forum Expert' should not be on number of posts, but on knowledge of IVA procedure such as Melanie?' It was my mess you were referring to so it was directed towards me.

However I feel that Admin's decision to use the word 'expert' has now been clarified.

The important thing is that posters appreciated the imput of others who have 'been there', without judgement, as it offers empathy, support, experience and a shoulder.

I am pleased to read in your post to kerri that you have got out of your own problems, others may be able to benefit from your own experience, and wish you luck with your STD.

Melanie, yep, too true got in just in time! VERY impressed with the amount of time you devote to this site, it's obvious that you are a font of knowlege and give these folks a LOT of support. We went through Thomas Charles (I highly recommend them) before being passed to an IP North of the border.. Again Melanie great to read your posts (and that's not because I did 15 years in the RE's!)
