Little story my husband is not so amused with [:D]
I have been bankrupt before (couple of years ago), and unfortunately my husband and I took on a business which then fell apart due to various outside issues, and as we are joint liable for the debts personally, the only way out of our situation is to declare bankruptcy.
We are looking to declare bankruptcy in January, and at the moment we are both spending around £30 a month each on O2 Pay as you go.
We had a look at their "online" sim-only tariffs, as they are a 30 day rolling contract, but offer more than what we need for only £15 a month each!
Anyway, my husband used to be on O2 contract a few years back for about 3 years. 100% perfect paying history. Both of our payment history for our personal debts were always 100% (it really is our business that has screwed us over [:(!]).
Long story short, we both applied online for the sim card, and I (the ex-bankrupt) got approved immediately, my husband (100% paying history but granted more debts like overdraft/credit cards) got referred and then 30 minutes later declined!
To annoy my husband further, I tried taking out a second contract on his behalf 24 hours later and got approved again straight away!
Obviously the official receiver may force us to downgrade again to pay as you go, though obviously with no arrears, no long-term contract in place and the fact our combined spend will be £30 a month on this 30day contract, rather than £60combined on pay as you go, hopefully the OR will see some common sense!
So to all those that worry about not being able to get credit on things like mobile phones and minor credit items then have no fear.
