Bad news for us in IVAs, British Gas just announced an 18% increase in gas prices & others to follow, where will it all end?

I'm not with them either but they won't be the only one going this way I'm sure. That's why I didn't search for the best price when I entered into the IVA for my utilities, knew this was coming but didn't think it would be this bad!

I'm with Atlantic for both and have always found them to be competitive. So far my monthly payments haven't gone up since I started with them and I hope it stays that way.

Poo - we have our electric with BG. Think I will be ringing them later to try to sort something or swap.

Can't really save on electric can you! Apart from showering in the garden with a hose, candles, and heating water on a fire made with twigs and moss!!! lol

Well I'm planning on wearing lots of woolies this year & turning the heating right down, not something I've done previously but I'm far more focussed on money saving now! Fortunately my mum knits so big cardis all round and I don't care if I look like an old lady!

Could she make some socks for my parrot! We have to have the heating on for him but I go round turning every other radiator off and we try to have open fires going when we are all in the lounge.
But having said that, I would have probably been struggling more if I were not in the IVA so I am gonna try to see that as a positive.

Scandalous.

How they can justify such increases is beyond me.

Fortunately our hot water is powered by gas as is the central heating and we have cavity wall and insulation so our bills haven't been too bad.

I won't be turning the heating down in the winter though!

It is scandalous though Mike - they are making loads of profit and do not need to put up the prices as much as they do.

Its not really a surprise, the only thing British about British Gas is their prices and profits.

Yeah these companys do need to make a fair profit to invest in development etc, but in these very tough times i think big companys should be looking to keep profits at a level to make sure long term there will be people out there to buy the stuff.

If we all go down the tubes who do they think will be buying their gas and electric?
All these companys seem to think about is wringing every ounce of revenue from households until everybody will be logged onto this site talking about their IVAs!
Perhaps we should all think about house sharing over the winter to share the burden and cut their profits?

We've just had cavity walls and loft insulation done this week while we have been off.....even though IVA finished now we are still being careful with the pennies and the suggested increases are beyond belief ! It is getting to the point that we will have to sit around the fire too rather than having the radiators on all over the house !

As hubby is at home all day then our heating is on throughout the winter. It is usually just twice a day or throughtout the day but not at night, unless it's paricularly cold when it's on 24/7.

Well, we don't have gas at all as we live rurally and it's not an option, gas prices on the whole don't tend to fluctuate as much as oil which we have no other option but to have (whilst in the IVA anyway!, my last delivery of oil cost me 25% more in May than in did last November!!!

Lem - Cheap oil![:D]

We live rural as well but have LPG - which has seen the prices rise from 38.5p to 53p per ltr in the last 6 months (approx £80 extra every time they fill the tank up - about 5 times a year) Makes it about the same price per unit of energy as electric. Thankful we dont use it as much now as we have the coal/woodburner and electric heating in the bedrooms.
