hi l am hopeing to go visit my sister in spain and need to hire a car all companies require a credit card to secure and won't let me use cash any advice please......
Hi I have a cash plus card (prepay) and they 100% allow car hire. It even says so on their website.
You have to call to enable it but when I called they told me it was already on for my account.
You need to find out how much the hire company put as a reserve on your card and make sure you have at least that amount on there. That balance will be reserved and not spendable until the car is returned and the hire company release the reserve which can take up to a month according to the customer services person at cash plus.
So as long as you're prepared for that you should be ok.
I rented a car from hertz in Malta using a debit card by the way and had no issues.

We hired a car in Spain recently. We stayed on a campsite, and they arranged it for us. We had to pay a cash deposit of 450 euros, and then around 40 euros a day for the car. When we returned the car, we got our deposit back. It really was very easy, and no need to use any cards at all!
I've previously used a company called Indigo Car Hire. I explained that I didn't have a credit card and they were happy to accept payment on a debit card. They do insist that you take out their insurance top up which wasn't too expensive. They do pre-charge for fuel, you pick up the car full and return it as near to empty as you dare ! As everything has already been charged up front, you have no nasty surprises when you get home. It is more expensive this way but at least you know there's a car waiting for you and you don't have the embarrassment of having to explain why you don't own a credit card
