Hi,
I started an IVA in 2008 so it will finish August 2013.
How long does it stay on record from completion date? I thought from start to finish it was approx 6 years, but somebody told me it was another 6 years after completion was finished.
The only reason Im asking is I need to renew my phone contract and wondered if it would be a problem.

My understanding is that it stays on your record for 6 years from commencement. I also believe that you will need to give evidence of your completion certificate before the credit reference lot will clean up you files..

I think the confusion here is caused by some lenders ( mortgage providers in the main) have an in house policy of not lending for 6 years post IVA. This has nothing to do with your credit files.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Vanda, if you are staying with the same provider there should be no problem anyway. Many posters here have even managed a new contract whilst in their IVA's, with T-Mobile.

My IVA is still on my credit file and I upgraded my phone this weekend with my current provider with no problem whatsoever, should be delivered to my workplace today.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Thankyou Thats good to know, although I need to change providers as where I live I cannot get a reception so paying out for a contract I cant use, if push comes to shove I will have to get my partner to do it in his name, it's just I like to be independant

I have just had a situation where i was told the same (Noddle.co.uk). Once completed IVA, I have to wait 6 years after that date before my credit record is clear. I have questioned it and they are adamant that what they tell me is true.
If so, I have been 'miss sold' an IVA. Cause as soon as my IVA is complete, I was hoping to get a mortgage.

wannabedj -- Noddle are talking out of their backsides! Your credit files at the CRA's will clear after 6 years from the date of the start of the IVA, as long as you have completed and all defaults have been dated correctly.

Thanks foggy. I did think it was strange what they said but wanted someone to just confirm it.
