Ah Lily, I know you have, you've done so well, hopefully I'll be all sorted soon too. I'm off on a bike ride now so my worries will be blown away! Viki X

they stayed around for a while, about 20 minutes just continually buzzing even suggesting i was being "infantile" and should face up to my debts to which i have to admit I responded with a blowing a raspberry down the intercom then pointing out politely that I had "faced up to my debts" and if they kept harrassing me i would call the police.

I miss fun days like that ;o)

I've also had letters and endless calls from Mercers - i just kept telling them my siuation and it felt good to eventually be able to tell them i was in an IVA so leave me alone - and they have (so far anyway). Be strong you'll get there!!

I offered token payments myself before deciding on IVA and Melanies team so I have been getting letters and phone calls for about 3 months now. Even though I wrote to everyone telling them of my situation and that I couldn't pay them more than a token it was left hand not knowing right hand situation. The letters and phone calls from all creditors except M & S totally ignored what I had said. Tesco and Mint (RBS) sent letters asking for budget statement, M & S agreed to token payment until June no problem, A & L (MBNA) kept phoning and then when I said I was putting into hand of IP asked me if I wanted to speak to their IVA dept - didn't know they had one, Barclaycard horrible and pushy every time they phoned so I my 12 yeard old acted as my secretary, took my girls and told them I wasn't in, didn't know when I would be available and no I had no other contact numbers - I would definately employ her. Barclaycard handed to Mercers who instantly tried to be nice (a ploy I think), tried to be a counsellor - did I know what I was doing, had I researched and oh by the way did I want to pay anything over the phone to avoid collection agency - NO. When I told them they were making my medical condition worse they polite lady became more polite and said please keep in touch and she would make a note not to pass to collections! I don't think it will be too long before IVA processed hopefully so I not really worring - or may be its the tablets I am on now. My only worry is that a collection man may come when my 12 year old is in on her own. I will tell her not to answer unless its someone she knows - she usually does that anyway so as not to answer the door to strange people.

Oh Elizabeth I feel for you - I know how stressful this situation can be, beleive me. Barclaycard, MBNA & Goldfish are the worst in my experience. Be stong, as the others have said we have all been scared and felt threatened, it's a ploy to make you pay them money you haven't got - I was "had" a few times and gave a payment over the phone that left me with no money or food.
Try to stay calm, take a deep breath and just keep repeating to anyone that phones that you are experiencing difficulty and seeking professional help. If you don't feel up to it, don't answer the phone - they will leave a message and you can reply when you feel stronger.
Keep advising your children it's good to be wary of strangers and not to open the door to anyone they don't know well - that's a life lesson we all learn when young and a good part of self preservation in the times of today for adults as well.
We are all here for you....I'm so grateful to this site as it has made me stromg enough to try to help others. You are not alone - the site members will always be here with you and no matter what time of day or night there is someone to talk to.
Stay strong,
Love & hugs,

Thanks for that - is your name Chardonnay or is that your tipple and wishful thinking. I am feeling quite good at the moment apart from quite tired because I am really busy at work - have a very very demanding job as well as hubby not well. I am managing the calls and letters ok because I know it will get sorted one way or another. Life is too short. My best friend died July last year at the age of 39 - she had one stress after the other and a series of mis-haps (falls etc), very stressful job and owed a lot of money, plus a very unsupportive partner. She left two small girls of 11 and 7. I count my blessings.

Hi Elizabeth,
Chardonnay is my favourite tipple!! My real name is Caerrie.
Gosh you are going through it, I know how hard it is to loose someone and have money worries - my fiancee died last April after having a massive heart attack. I was left with lots of his debt and that's what tipped me over the edge and into an IVA.We had moved to Wales so I spent a ver isolated year with nothing in my life but work and stress.
It has been tough but you can survive it!!
I wish I'd found this website earlier as I suffered and worried alone and my health (especially mental) suffered. Thanks to everyone on here I'm now on the mend and actually see a light at the end of the tunnel!!
We,re all here for you,
Love & hugs,
Chardonnay
