I am pregnant and I know that we will need to tell IP. I should imagine we will need to do another I+E. Do we do this before baby is born and how will we know how much baby costs? Is there some guidelines out there for babies in IVA's?
Good question. Babies cost a lot but life is far too short to put off havings kids until after an iva!! My grandad once said that if you wait until you can afford kids you will never have any!!
Hopefully some posters will have recently had a baby to know what things cost. Your ip should be kept informed as no doubt you will drop income due to maternity pay etc. A new income and expenditure will certainly be needed.
Congratz!!

My advice would be this: Whatever is offered to you, TAKE IT!! LOL.
I made the mistake in my first pregnancy of buying way too many clothes when all they live in for the first couple of months is babygros. By the time she was bigger she had out grown all the lovely little outfits I had bought, so they were wasted. I bought one of these fancy pushchairs with the car seat thingy, that lasted about 3mths before she out grew it.
I know formula milk isn't cheap these days about £9 I think and you will probably need one a week(that's if you use formula of course)
Oh and don't buy pampers nappies. They are way overpriced and tescos or Morrisons own do just the same job just as well and are about £5 cheaper!!
Plasticdaft - Thank you. I am scared but excited. Infact you are the first people I have told after my Husband. We are going to wait 12 weeks (I am currently 6 weeks). I feel like shouting it from the roof tops!!!!!
Judo - Thank you for your advice also. We already have a Daughter but she is coming up to 8 years old so it feels like forever ago and it is like being pregnant for the first time, I am reading the books getting scared, ha ha.
I have already decided that this baby is going to be an ebay baby!!! I would not have dreamed about it with the first but the amount of money we just threw away on stuff we did not need.
I always think a IVA should not put anything on hold but adapt to changes that occur in a IVA.
It would be a good idea to let your IP know your expecting & a Income & expenditure review will need to be done when the baby arrives.
You will be able to claim Child Benefit & may be able to claim Child Tax Credits pending on your income. Then there is maternity leave etc to consider too, so once you have all this worked out then a I&E can be done.
I have 2 boys (aged 8 & 6) so I do have an idea of the cost!!! There are guidelines some IPs work too, but it is always going to be best to put down what you actually spend.
There will be nappies, clothes, milk, baby food, child care to think about, I used to try make my own baby food, but was not very good at it in the early stages.
I also agree with the own brand nappies are quite good in the supermarkets too, which I did not learn till nearly too late! With my first I went over board & bought all the brand stuff! Then found out Johnsons had higher concentration of ingredients than what I used on my self!
Dont forget you can request a payment break before the arrival if you need to buy prams, cots etc.
Good luck with the pregnancy Im sure your IP will support you & let us know how you get on x
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X

Many congratulations from me too and while babies are expensive they are worth every penny. I am sure your IP will help all they can and perhaps closer to the time you could get a payment break to buy the bigger items needed and cover any shortfall in income.
It is scary. There is only 4 years difference between my two but it takes a bit of getting used to, the thought of going through it all again.!
I spent nowhere near as much on my second as I did on my first and I felt guilty for a while, thinking (stupidly) she will think we don't love her as much!
I took a second hand cot from a friend. Did buy the mattress new though although we didn't buy the super duper one that we bought first time round.
I kept my moses basket and highchair, was given a travel cot, borrowed my friends steriliser, I could go on and on!
Best of luck with the pregnancy sazzysue and I am sure that when the time comes your IP will be most supportive and do what they can to help you through it!
My sister spent 7 months of her pregnancy watching for 2 for 1 offers on nappies etc at all the supermarkets. Easy to do just check where friends shop and ask them to text if any good offers come up. By the time the baby comes you will have a small supply of nappies and wipes etc.

For bigger items you could look at Freecycle - you might pick up something for free on there which will save you a lot of money.
Asda frequently have baby events with discounted everyday items which you can buy as you go along.

Congratulations and my suggestion is if you've any friends who have finished with things they might sell them to you at a much reduced price. My twin grandsons grow so quickly and have it all new but then it's sold almost as new. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
My mates daughter just got a gorgeous moses basket for £7 at a car boot as the sellers said it took up too much room. It was £90 new and is absolutely spotless. Also look on ebay and in newsagents windows as most put photos on the ads now. A lot of people get things as gifts and then don't use them / have the room and if it's in excellent condition I think it's worth saving money and buying like this.
We didnt buy anything for my son until he was about 4 as our neighbor had a son who was about a year older than Henry and passed all of his old stuff on to us. I say old stuff, it was all really good labels , better than we could have afforded, When Henry finished with it I passed it on again to another friend who in turn passed it on again. Also Henry had loads of really nice toys from the same neighbor.
