Hi guys. OK, I first made contact with my IP in April, well, they contacted me after my case was passed to them by Debt Matters who said they couldn't help me. Since then things seem to have been so slow and as I'm sure you can all appreciate, the phone calls and stress are relentless. Two weeks ago I eventually received, and immediately returned, my proposal and since then I have not heard a dickie bird. It is so hard when you're not familiar with the processes. Is this usual? I've paid them £1000.00 and I just need it sorting one way or another.
How long do these things take? Am I correct in thinking that now my proposal gets put to Creditors and I am waiting for a date for my creditor's meeting? ... I only know as much as I do know from what I've read here, not from my IP! So how long till a Creditors meeting, how long to a decision and how long till it's all, hopefully, in motion? God it's stressful!! [xx(]
Thanks xx

Hi Woody

You say you first made contact with your IP in April. Blimey!!! Its now August - unless there were some very serious complications within your IVA or you failed to submit papers to them, I cannot for the life of me fathom why this has taken so long. You also say that you have paid them £1,000. What was this for? Upfront fees? or the first few payments toward your IVA?

I would suggest that you get onto the phone first thing in the morning and do not let up until you have a satisfactory answer from them. This is just very bad conduct. Fortunately, not all IP's act in this fashion.

Woody, you can pull out of this IVA right up to the creditors meeting and approach another perhaps more professional company, who in theory has your life in their hands, - and will act on your behalf with both yours and your creditors interests in a professional manner.

Please post a bit more information if you can.

Sue

Hi,
My IVA went through fairly quickly, had to send all relevant docs off, they told us exactly what to do, we were put straight on to a new bank and the creditors meeting was within 1 month. you shouldnt need to wait that long.

Our IVA went through in a matter of weeks from the first enquiry we made.
Try Melanie Giles; she is excellent.

Thanks for replying. I thought it seemed long! I've co-operated speedily to every request. I had my first letter from them on 18th April with a list of everything they needed. On 20th April I replied with everything, ID, statements for every single account, just everything they asked for. I sent it recorded delivery. I assumed stuff was happening until they contacted me over a month later asking if I wanted to proceed as they had heard nothing from me! I was devastated!! I'd prided myself on being so speedy. She had not received my recorded delivery letter!! This was confirmed by the Post Office, so I feel I've been doomed from the start. Post Office LOST the letter and paid me £34.00 compensation! I felt like my IP didn't believe me and was devastated. I sent her a copy of my recorded delivery slip and my compo letter from the PO as evidence as I hated feeling like a non-compliant, complancent liar when I am anything but!
So in May I got everything together again and sent it Special Delivery as I was now paranoid about Royal Mail! Then they arranged a remortgage for me through a connected broker to interest only. This completed in June then as I say, two weeks ago I received this proposal, which I signed and sent back the very next day, by Special Delivery again and I've just heard nothing.
The money I've paid to them is two month contributions which they said they needed to get things started, preparation and Court fees.
I'll phone her tomorrow like you say. I think I worry that she'll think I'm harrassing her and then wont want to help me!! I keep thinking that surely she must be doing all she can as when I do speak to her she's pretty nice, although I have never spoken to the actual IP chap who's names on the note paper, just my 'case worker'.
God it's stressful isn't it!!

Hi Chris
Debt Matters passed me on without actually saying they were going to. I initially contacted them in like February, this is how long it's been going on, but after receiving my paperwork they said that my mortgage payment was too high a percentage of my income for an IVA to be successful. A couple of weeks later I got a call from someone who said Debt Matters had referred my papers to him and having reviewed my case he felt that with some juggling, remortgaging etc it would be feasible. So that's how I got where I am today - no further basically!!!

We were told to stop any payments including creditors, you cant favour anyone! You fees are built into the IVA and are payable at the end< you should not pay any thing yet! Who are you dealing with?

If you are ok with this, can you tell us who you have gone with for the IVA? By remortgaging to an interest only payment, would certainly help reduce your monthly outgoings thereby giving your creditors a better return.

You have paid two months contributions already, you have every right to jump up and down and demand an explanation.

Get on the phone and don't let up until you have an answer. And insist on speaking to your IP.

I had to make initial payments prior to the IVA being accepted by my creditors. The IP's on this forum advise against it - I was naive at the time, but have learnt my lesson.

Someone needs to help you properly. Strictly no payments until the creditors have approved your proposal.

oooh dear!! stressed out even more than I was at the start!!
The payments I have made are for the IP set up fees, I've read other people do the same thing on here previously so I didnt really think anything of it ... now I feel dead stupid! I've not paid anything to Creditors, it is payments to my IP for them I think for their fees for setting up the IVA. I thought the other fees they took from the monthly payments after set up were for their continuing involvement, so it all just seemed ok! Seems I may have been wrong!!! Ooops!
I'm apprehensive to give the name of the company on here, what if they know it's me and then they're cross with me?!!! Oh my god!!! Dont know what to do!!
