Hello All

I've been away for the last couple of weeks but now back and pleased to see the forum as busy as ever. I've been ploughing through the posts and just read the one about how IVA's have changed over the last 5 years. I could almost sense the anger that must surely have been building up in Melanie and Catcullus at some of Sonyse2t5's comments. After further rants I see Andy has asked him to stop posting for the time being.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7103940.stm

Just read the above on the BBC website. If that information gets out we are less likely to worry about showing up on the Insolvency Register.

Gordon Brown is Chancellor for 10 years then the minute he leaves we get Alistair Darling and the Northern Rock situation followed by this. Wonder if he wishes he was Transport Secretary again.

Dave
Regards

Dave

Hi
Just touching on the NR situation I was listening to radio 2 yesterday and they were debating about should the goverment bail out NR shareholders who stand to lose vast amounts. My thoughts were that when you buy shares in a company you are taking a risk and should take the rough with the smooth.I don't recall the government bailing out the many thousands of people who lost out on the fairpack hamper collapse.
Good to see you back Bear, how was the "cruise" ?

Nice to see you back Dave - This data loss story is amazing... God only knows what punishment the FSA would dish out to my firm if we lost any personal data like this.

I couldn't believe the news this evening, and I thought that 1 April had come five months early. What a catastrophe and completely unecessary. i fear that we will hear the ripples of this one for a long time.

Melanie this government doesnt do ripples!! The bad news will be "buried" with all the rest i.e our gold reserves that were sold at the bottom of the cycle, our pensions that were plundered etc etc...

I agree with Andy! you only buy shares with money you can afford/are willing to loose. Shareholders dont give us money when the shares go up,so why give them money when they go down? ..the NR share price slide was not overnight,it was gradual..cautious people had time to get out..but greed probably kept many in!!

On the NR fiasco doesn't it give you a warm feeling (or am i just sad!) that the Bank that have been so negative and regect IVA's for no reason is now itself in financial mayhem! Before they get any other help it should go to a vote of IVA members to see if they get 75%

Well myself and a good number of others have been concerned about HMRC. Every year we have had problems when they lose tax returns. The stories I hear and can tell you show that they have a complete disregard to the way that people are treated with regard to personal information!

They want more information on us , including us having to answer a question in the census when we had sex the first time!

Personally, I think enough is enough and I am seriously thinking of not providing any more information and not getting an identity card on the basis of the infridgement of my civil liberties!

The amount of beaucracy that is beeing generated is becoming ridiculous and no wonder data is easily getting lost!

Oh the irony of this.....

Many years ago, the government asked that all it's departments to become compliant/certified to a little known standard called BS7799 - several years later this standard is now internationally recognized as the code of practice for Information Security Management (ISO27001) but most of the government departments have not become compliant/certified. Funnily enough, Information Handling and Media Management are all part of this standard - HHmmmm.

Perhaps if the government had stuck to it's initial decision back in the late 90's or achieving certification by the Year 2000 !!! many recipients of child benefit may not be worrying this morning.

Unfortunately, this is common practice within most organizations when it comes to handling our information. Some organizations do take this seriously whereas others see it as a hindrance to business.

Oh well - at least this problem will never happen with the Insolvency Register as that is already available for every Tom, Dick and Harry to see!!! No need to send it through the post!!!! I guess we should be thankful it does not include our Bank details and N.I. numbers.
47 months completed - 13 months to go.
