surely though if there is acceptance on computer that the direct debit was cancelled this would have to be refunded from the bank as they failed to cancel it. I am aware that Citibank have a special arrangement with Lloyds so you can pay cash into lloyds for your citibank account and though they do not appear to be linked I was nervous enough about that to not take a basic account with citibank and go to COop instead, however I would not worry the IVA meeting will sort everything out. It will be to your old banks detriment if they are allowing you to get more in debt to them as you will only pay what you can pay.. try to think of it that way and dont worry. Just wait and see how the meeting goes... this debt panic makes us all think negatively but sometimes you cannot worry about what has not yet happened. Just wait and see and rely on us lot to carry you through til the meeting which I am sure will go well.
Creditors meeting set for 2nd June....

As the others have said please try not to worry. They are the ones in the wrong, you're trying to do the best you can. It seems that all banks do this, as Natwest did it it to me.

Regarding Citi Cards, I can't help thinking that they reinstated the DD themselves - as Jane says they can do this. Dave cancelled a DD a few years ago but the company reinstated it and took over £400 from his account, meaning the mortgage wasn't paid that month.

Please try not to worry, you've got enough on at the moment worrying about J's mum x

David they were doing this to me all the time. Doesn't matter that there is no money in the account, and HSBC will not think that you have been operating the account.

I even transfered my loan payment to my new bank, and then cancelled it. They still took it out of their account!

You are on the downhill stretch now, not long till Tuesday. I am sure Melanie will pick up on this later and say the same. Don't give up now.

As others have said, if you can unplug your phone this weekend - do so. Or let calls go through to 1571 and if it's someone you know then you can either answer it or call them straight back.

We are all behind you and it will be ok.

David - there really is nothing I can do at this stage to stop these calls. I know how upsetting they are, but we are nearly there for your creditors meeting.

If one creditor has incorrectly pinched some money off another creditor which they were not entitled to do, personally I would not lose any sleep over it. You can show that you cancelled the DD, and that should be an end to it.
Regards, Melanie Giles, Insolvency Practitioner

David and J

Sorry to hear you're having so many problems with everything going on. I was really sorry to hear that your mum, J , had taken a turn for the worse, I do hope she improves soon.
Like both of you I had some real 'wobblies' in the final days before our creditors meetings and wanted to disappear off to a remote Scottish island (bliss!) and live amongst the sheep so I do understand how you're feeling.
Stick with it, you are so close now, only a few days and it will be over. I honestly truly believe that if Melanie wasn't confident of getting your proposal agreed then she wouldn't be putting it forward.
As to HSBC, the banks do seem to be a law unto themselves, but you have done everything right - it's their actions that are making things worse and you can prove you cancelled these dd's.
Please try not to worry (easier said than done, I know) and focus on the more important things in life this weekend rather than numpties at the bank.
All the best to you and your family and I'm hoping things get better with J's mum.

Take care of yourselves

P x

TO EVERYONE - thank you so much for your support - Melanie spoke to me on the phone made me feel a bit better. I am sorry to have been a fool pestering you "lot" - but with one thing and the other am very fragile at the moment. Paul, your comment was superb but believe me I am not much use to anyone I am afraid. My PP has telephoned - he said J's mother is awake - They are both on their way back and he said he is taking us to the pub and we are staying there until closing time and if we are incapable then he is putting us to bed in the Presbytery. He did make me laugh though he said he will say a Requiem Mass for HSBC whilst they are still alive! Thank you again - we (J and I) do not know what we would do without you. Jan - you are such a help
