Are you living in the Irish Republic? If so, discharge from bankruptcy will take 12 years (if my memory is reliable) so that is probably the best place for him. But why are the debts all in your name?

Emily

have you got any kids ?

You've been taken for a right old ride lassie.

I would suggest that you want to get down to the CAB and also get a free meeting with a solicitor pronto to work out whats best.
Are you paying the mortgage ?
Has he paid anything towards it ?

The money/debt is a big thing but it sounds to me like you need to get him out of your life and get some secure housing sorted out first.

Slainte - no all blokes are bad - some of us are ok [:)]

Will an automatic discharge hurt.
Early Discharge is not an illness !

After spending 3 days reading nearly every thread here and made notes and countless calls I have now dealt with my own debt problem exasberated by my drunken and gambling husband- he is(legally forced) to sell the house to pay off 75% of our debts and I will do a DMP for the rest.We will separate after that.

I only got 13K after that so no point in having any IVA.I was offerred a no charge DMP from the Consumer Council Service which I will take when the proceeds of the house is allocated.

You seem like you have managed to find a solution, well done on that.

But I am so sorry to hear about the problems you have had with your partner. I hope everything works out OK for you.
