Help please. Husband has a serious heart condition and is now at the point where he feels he cannot carry on working in his current job as it is impacting on his health. We are 2 and a half years into our iva and have already nearly reached our agreed amount to pay back (not the whole debt) Can anybody advise me on how to approach our iva company about this. In December he was working nearly 7 days a week and it looks set to continue, I really don't think we can go on like this. He was blue lighted to hospital twice within a month in November and I don't think that things can continue anymore as they are. Any advice from anybody would be great. Many thanks
Hi, your husbands health is paramount here, I would contact your IP and explain the situation and if your husband has to give up work or take on lighter duties (if possible) due to health problems then hopefully they'll be sympathetic to this.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I can imagine how hard it is to find employment but if it's detrimental to his health then this does need to come first. Would his current position not offer him part-time hours and come to an arrangement with your IVA company in respect of this. One of the more experienced posters will be along soon I'm sure with some advice, hang in there. x

Thanks Lesley. the company he works for really expects their pound of flesh and we have discussed him going part time tonight (if it was possible) but all that would mean is that they would expect full time work but squeezed into part time hours. Hope that makes sense! Just feeling guilty about worrying about the iva when I should be worrying about hubby. I suppose I just would like to know what options are there, I hate things being out of my control.
Hi - you need to speak to your IP in detail to look at the options available for your ivas as there are lots of options depending on your circumstances. If your husband wouldn't be returning to work, would br be an option for him with you continuing your iva? Your husband's health is paramount here and the iva has to work for you, not you working for it!
Hi, I don't feel bankruptcy is an option as we own our home so I think that would be taken off of us as there is some equity in it (although not much) If we went down to just my wage there would be nothing left to pay either of our ivas.
I wonder if your IP would consider a 'paid to date' offer if your husband was unable to work anymore? Let Melanie or one of our more experienced posters comment as they really do know their stuff. x

If this were a client of mine I would be suggesting a termination of the IVA on grounds that your husband is risking his health by continuing to work. Could you get a letter from his GP to this effect, and then ask your IP to call the necessary creditors meeting to consider whether this would be acceptable.
I agree that you should see if the creditors will accept what has been paid in so far. Your husbands health is the number one priority here.
I do know what it is like to have a spouse with heart problems as mine suffers from chronic ill health as well. Fortunately he is retired.

Thanks so much everyone. I am going to call in today and speak with my case worker to se how the land lies. I will post later with responses and how I am getting on.
Well I have spoken a couple of times today with my iva company and explained things to them. I have always kept them in the loop about hubbys health so they have now agreed that his health has to come first. My boss has been wonderful today and has said to me that he will give me £2000 to present as a full and final offer to them which my iva company seem to be fairl confident will be accepeted. This will broing me within a couple of hundred pounds of the amount we originally agreed to pay back. What do you all think, will it be accepted?
