I am in an IVA with 3 payments left to go. Today I have been informed that our combi-boiler is kaput. I have always had the care plan, but the boiler is now beyond repair. It is looking at about £1200 for a new boiler, which we don't have. The question is 2 parts:-
If I could get a boiler on finance, would/should my IVA practioner consider allowing this?
If they do - is there anywhere we could get one on credit considering our credit history?

Given you are in an IVA I think finance would be hard to come by in any form, also the terms of the IVA would usually not allow you to get any credit over £500 so the IP will not give you any allowance for it.

Given you are only 3 payments away from the end don't be surprised if the IP has no sympathy whatsoever. To arrange any sort of reduction in payments will prob take a few weeks so they will just delay until you have completed then its not their problem..

Also if you stop paying the last 3 payments they could still claim you are in breach of the IVA..

Hi
Funny gas people told me the same after years of paying service cover. I argued that they should have dealt with the deterioration before it got so bad. Took a lot of standing my ground but they gave in and gave me a new boiler for nothing. I only paid for installation and a full flush of the system which cost £700 probably could have tried arguing out of that but decided not to push my luck
If someone has been servicing your boiler they have some responsibility to reduce the replacement costs. Play the poverty bit to the max companies make huge profits on service contracts
Try not to involve the IVA you're so near the end well done

How awfull but just three months away, I would get to the finish line. Could try ebay oil filled radiators and worktop water heater for a quick fix(like a giant kettle with a tap on it) If the neighbours are out go and jump in their bath.

In three months you'll have some disposable income. Through out my IVA I had got cheap gym membership, used their soap and swiped the odd loo roll even washed my kit n stuff in their showers and then could park in town for free and I got really fit to boot. I saved a fortune on my electric only allowed one tank of hot per day which I always let the wife have of course

Your credit file is shot until year six and the only people who will help you is those hrorid preditors pay day loans and that's a place you don't want to go.

But forget credit it's what got you here in the first place

Just think in three months you can open up a savings account YBS 2% instant access no penalty gets could air time on here, a great savings account

I finshed my IVA 12 months ago I still wait to spy one of those white tickets price match at the self service in Tesco, why do people just leave them it's free flippin money

wear a coat and smell a bit, might be a little uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as credit on your shoulders!

Good luck

The hot water for my wife, was for the washing up. just for the record. If she wanted to get clean she can stand out in the rain....

I think it's a little harsh to suggest the IP will not be interested as you are close to completing, at least give them a chance first!

It is unlikely you will be able to get credit for that amount to fund a new boiler, but there should be the option of a payment break to save up the money to purchase a new boiler, at least it's happened now before winter sets in, it may delay the end of your IVA by a couple of months but that's just unfortunate when these things happen.

Don't want to come across wrong, but i just don't use the boiler at all, only in the freezing winter. I have an electric shower and for washing up i just boil the kettle. My oh didn't get it when she moved in, kept putting the hot water tap and getting cold, it was when i explained £10 lasts a week in the gas meter, it costs pennies to boil a kettle.

Not ideal for everyone i know but, my gas bill last year was £78! very frugal living.

Do talk to your IP in the first instance to try and work a way forward.

Hope you can work out a way to move forward. I once had to stop payments for 3 months for a new boiler after spending goodness knows how much on repairs of the old one, in hindsight (that oh so wonderful thing) I would have gone for the new one straightaway.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I had to take a payment break earlier in the year for boiler repairs - they're a pain aren't they?
