Hippo - you are nuts ( in a good way!) We ought to make that post a sticky. Full of good sense (Hippo style).

Anyway, Wicksie -- one of the companies you must call is Mels, then you get to speak to two of the lovliest ladies here, if you are lucky.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

LOL Ginger. No (as far as my IP knows).I just am of the genuine opinion that you wouldn't go far wrong with "Team Mel" (and, of course, the lovely Tina, who has had glowing compliments from all who have had the pleasure of speaking to her). There are many good, even excellent, IP's on the forum, but I just like the way Mel deals with things in a common sense and down to earth manner. Even if the rules don't go your way, there is no doubt they are being applied in your best interests.

: ) wicksy
no problemo the Hippo knows stuff and yes took me a couple of minutes but as with everything in life theres a positive and negative It helps me when I am writing some of my past experience

As you will find when you are started at the moment you are in a fog and cant see clearly or as somebody else wrote on here Its like riding an exercise bike you dont get anywhere no matter how hard you try :) not that the Hippo can actually sit on a bike : )

Anyhoo glad you summoned up the nerve to make the call Thats the hardest part done now everythng else will be downhill now You have to admit to yourself you are in trouble and accept it then move on
I did mine all on my own I really didnt care or look what I was signing on mine there maybe is a clause that I signed for that says I have to go on X factor and sing Britney Spears when I do finish
I just wanted my problems sorted out and put all my trust in my IVA Company so it worked out for me and I wil be out of this next year

My time so far has been realtively ok a few downs as with everything but I made my own problems I will do whatever I have to do to get out of it and I am now looking ahead to next year and free to do what I want so I dont care what happens until then I have come this far and will get there so I just put it all behind me and stay positive each new day and this time next year I will change mu whole life around and I am planning on that

You have to set yourself short term targets and long term goals Break it down to 2 or 3 months and then start again Good if you have a close friend to whinge to occassionally or read a post in here will make you feel better I wish I had looked for more info when I was into mine But really once you start then you just adjust to it and see it as a challenge rather than a negative You will get stronger for it and make you see things differently.

Once you get going just think of it as a 5 year Bank Loan and pretty much everybody has some sort of loan You were paying back your debts anyway so this way it will have a definite finishing line And another benefit is ..... if you were clearing your credit cards you would only be thinking ok I will get something else now and spend more again This way you are paying back and cant start borrowing again.
Hope your meeting goes well and even before then you can always ring some other company up see what they say or can advise you then you will be extra confident on your meeting day : )

All the companies will be pretty much offering the same services I would choose either a large company if you just want a general service or a smaller practice maybe can give you a more day to day personal service and have more personal interaction that a bigger company

I went to the CAB for my info at the start but they told me to go bankrupt as the best way for me which I didnt want to do As I wanted to pay mine back as best as I could I borrowed in good faith so I wanted to do my best to pay it back

So yes maybe its best to have a chat with another company before your meeting they usually offer free calls so have a think about that

Write down all your income and expenditure over the weekend and get your paperwork sorted copied and filed ready to roll Bank Statements latest balances P60 etc and it will help you focus Coz you have to do that anyway so make the start now and it will show your IVA company you are prepared to get it dealt with
Also get yourself a new bank account sorted now as you need a new account for your IVA Choose a bank that you dont owe money too as they will snaffle it And take all your money out of the banks you owe or use for credit cards as once they know you are starting an IVA they will take the money out themselves I was stupid I kept paying out all my money and not a token payment

Sooner your IVA company gets there paws on your stuff the sooner you can get going with your IVA

It may seem daunting and worrying but that will pass at the end of the day they cant shoot you well they did try and poach me but thats coz I am a hippo :)

Bottom line is that you are going to make the effort to pay them back if they dont want to know then tough :)
look after yourself and dont get down or worried you will be sorted by October and can look forward to Christmas :P

Longest journey starts with the first step and this is just 5 years and a couple of months to set up its nothing really
