i am new to this forum. started seeking advice re iva on thursday and am awaiting the info from a couple of companies. before proceeding with a iva i was adviced that i need to change bank a/c as i am currently with the main creditor lloyds for loan, credit card and overdraft. before setting up the iva can i go for a a/c with a debit card or go for a cash card a/c. when setting up the a/c do i have to tell them that i am considering a iva.can anyone offer advice on the banks that offer accounts to people with iva...i welcome your advice. thanks...
Co-op are usually a good bank to try, you don't need to tell them that you are going for an IVA, I'm with Nationwide and never told them. As you are not yet in one, you may be lucky and get a bank account with a full debit card. Change it as soon as possible so that you are ready when you decide to go for it! Make sure you don't have an overdraft facility though.
Don't touch HSBC or First Direct as they are not sympathetic and they will close your account as soon as they realise that you are in an IVA.
Nationwide are usually good, as are Yorkshire Bank.

welcome sharon. kallis has mentioned some good options-i took her advice picking mine !
depending on your credit score if youre pre iva you could get a full bank account with debit card-think yorkshire do that-kal correct me if im wrong !
or youve got the nationwide as kal has mentioned.
i did manage to get a bank account pre iva but i also took a back up cashminder account with co-op-think you can do it same day in branch-i did mine by post-took 2 weeks, they just check your address-not your credit.
kals also right and avoid an overdraft.
good luck and keep posting for help and support [:)]
I think it's a full account with Yorkshire, but not too sure about that Fergie. Nationwide may only give you a cash card, that's all we've got.

Thanks for the information regarding bank accounts..Did my research re different IP's via this forum and iva.com over the weekend. Checked rating and cust comments-very interesting-Can anyone advice me on the best IP to use-if possible.
hi wardie. the best ip you can use is one who has your best interests at heart.
i can only speak from my own experience. my ip is melanie who is an expert on here and i picked her company purely from reading all the good advice she gives. i know when she first called she was so down to earth and friendly and IS ! whenever i call everyone is so lovely-im made to feel like the only client !
you will know by calling a few ip companies and the service you get will be indicative of that for the next 5 years. i personally think a company where you can contact your ip direct rather than call centre staff is better but thats just my view. good luck keep posting and let us know who you choose [:)]
Just had some brillant news - IVA accepted today. Thankyou to ClearDebt. Did not want to rock the boat by telling about my creditors meeting today, but have to share my good news with everyone on this forum as i haven't told my family or friends as i feel ashamed of getting myself into debt. About 35,000 in debt and the main creditor Lloyds Tsb did not bother to vote but got YES votes from Egg,Halifax, Mint,Capital One,Next and Additions with no modification. Been a very stressful time from when i 1st posted on this site reading about other people who are in the same situation and that has helped me decide on the Iva and the company that i used-So Thank You.
Keep posting and let us know how you are getting on.
