That's good news Phil and something I will possibly follow suit with when my IVA is over.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi
I have now moved to a Santander credit card, interest free for six months and a sensible APR. This has been possible because of running the Vanquis card for a couple of years.
My credit limit initially with Santander ? 6800 !!

It is good to be in control and back into mainstream banking. Just shows that you can recover post IVA and bankruptcy if you take your time and look around.

Regards
Andam Davies

You are a good example Andy of someone who has been through the journey. I hope to be in a similar position one day.

Fantastic news Phil, glad you've been approved.

Glad to see that it is possible to do mainstream banking again Andy.

Thanks all.
Brilliant Andy must be a great feeling to be back in mainstream banking, thats my goal in a few years I just have to be patient, it proves a point though that after the 6 years we can recover and life has never been better for me.

Lesley yes give it some thought once you have completed it can only help.

I can't wait to be finished - as I'll be a wrinkly and retired by then I hope I won't need any credit but good luck to those who need to rebuild their ratings.

I must be one of the unlucky ones!

I've been turned down by Vanquis and Capital One, although Capital One gave me the chance to appeal which I did.

I sent Capital One details of my income and outgoings, which showed a healthy excess spare amount of £900 per month, and they still turned me down!

So I've given up, stuff the credit card companies!

I know that some posters do get turned down - I have no idea why they accept one but not another one.

Did they tell you why they had turned you down struggling? I think I'd want to know.

I applied for a Vanquis card to use for my work related expenses so that I can claim them back before repaying the credit card - it avoids having to find money for trains and hotels etc from my current account - unfortunately, referred online, then turned down flat! I then applied for another one I got through the post (cant remember the name of the company), so I tried that, but then got a letter from Vanquis saying that as I had recently applied for a card from them, I cant apply for another one within 6 months - I hadnt realised that the 2nd company used Vanquis to issue their cards! I then tried my own bank Santander, and explained to them that my IVA completed in Jan 2009, and that my job meant I had ongoing expenses that for cashflow purposes I needed a card with just a low credit limit, but it was a case of "computer says no". So that means I have applied for 3 cards in a short space of time and all turned down, which I guess isnt going to help any future applications! How long do entries stay on your credit file that you have been turned down for credit, anyone know? Im just going to forget it now until my IVA is off my credit file, and then make sure its all cleaned up before i try again. In the meantime, my kind old Dad has agreed to make me an additional cardholder on one of his credit card accounts he doesnt use to get over the work expenses problem.

No idea - I know that Vanquis is hit and miss with acceptance.

If you can't get a credit card you could always think about getting a prepaid card.

just goes to show credit companys are still thick as us when it comes to money.
no debts and 900 spare cash and they still say no.
up to your eyeballs in it(like i was)and they couldnt stop chucking it at you.
i think when im out of iva and in the clear i will enjoy sending the "begging letters"that the credit companys send out offering you credit by sending them back with a covering letter stating i dont think they are in a position to extend their credit to me as they have a "bad credit rating over the last few years"
i can dream i suppose[:D]
cc received 6th January 2014 now upwards and onwards

No reason given as to why I was turned down, and the rejection letter said something along the lines of they didn't have to tell me why I'd been rejected, so I'm none the wiser!

Have to say,now the Co Op Cashminder is a full Visa debit, I don't actually need a credit card I suppose, but I am going to the USA in the Autumn, and just think it may come in handy when booking into my hotel over there, although seeing as their economic situation is as bad as ours, maybe it's not a given anymore that everyone will have a credit card!

struggling - try the prepay ones - they also do these in US dollars - it means to can start to load the card when you get it - a bit like a saving account - you may also find it cheaper than the tranasction charges levied..Airmiles do an Visa Electron card (US dollars) - you even get airmiles/ Virgin money/thomas cook etc etc (some charge monthly fees etc)

The credit cards companies dont often tell you why you are refused as it is "seen as sensitive company information" - diffrent companies use diffrent scorings.

Where are you going in the US in Autumn ?

I had a capital one card pre-iva and they are included in my IVA. I some how doubt they'd accept me somehow if I applied to them again.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

My limit with Vanquis has now been put up to £2250. I use it (not all obviously!) and to be honest the APR doesn't bother me as I pay it off in full every month.
