Well i know i said i wasnt going to tell my new partner that i was in an IVA but last night i had the perfect opportunity, we was on about his friend never being able to go or anything because he is in debt, not with creditors but with family and friends, just borrowing money then having to pay all his wages out as soon as he gets it and then he's in the same boat again, anyway i thought heres my chance, I brought it up by saying I know how he feels never having any money, i'm so glad ive sorted mine out, he asked, have you got a big loan or something, (he knew i had debt) I said no it's called and IVA and explained how it worked and he's so good with money he has never heard of an IVA and he said so have you gone bankrupt then!! bless him

He was lovley about it and said he would pay the monthly payments and pay a lump sum off my debts, I explained that it's not like that and theyve made my payments affordable to me, he just didnt understand it but it's out in the open now and i do feel soooooo much better!! It's made me realise just how much he does care, he also said leave any holidays or nights out to him, he said we are in this together, if he cant help me pay it off then he will treat me in other ways.

Thanks everyone, I did want to tell him but didnt know how to bring it up and he made it easy for me by opening the conversation, I felt closer to him last night knowing we havnt got a big secret between us!

Hi Saz, I'm so glad that you told your partner, and that you got a positive response. Good luck to you both for the future x

Well done Saz, it takes a lot of courage I know. I remember having to face upto my wife, I sort of told her in stages how bad things had got. I must admit, it wasnt until I had found and researched IVA's that I told the whole truth - as at least then I had something positive to go with the negative! But in hindsight, I wish I had told two years before when my problem would of only been half what it is today. And she would of supported me, I know that now! Good luck to both of you in the future...

Hi Saz,

You must be feeling great! It feels so good when we can count on the ones we love. I’m sure it will give you the strength you need throughout your IVA.

I wish you all the best!

Thats the way to do it!

Never hide things in a relationship, but also don't make such an issue out of having an IVA when telling new partners. Just drop it into the conversation at an appropriate time and it should not be a problem (except for gold diggers!).

Issues arise when you are in a longer term relationship and don't tell, then you have a crisis and tell! - lack of trust etc etc....

As a northern bloke I am astounded that I am sounding more like Clare Raynor every day.

Thanks everyone, I feel so much better, my everyday life has changed too, I actually came to work today feeling great (which never happens hee-hee)

In the past ive got so worked up thinking right today is the day i'm gunna tell him and then ive bottled it, ive even thought about ending it with him to avoid telling him, but last night we was just driving home after work when i thought now is my chance and i did it and it was so easy, We talked about it for about 20 mins and that was it back to normal.

Thanks again everyone youve been great!
